Maybe your cat doesn't like the litterbox filler. Have you changed brands? Have you given her a new litter box? Both of those changes will get a cat upset and cause them to protest!

If it is a new behavior she may have a uti and needs a vet. If this is something she has always done she may not like the litter you use. Unscented is what the kitties prefer. The scented stuff that we think is great is mighty strong for their sensitive noses. I recently bought, by accident, a mint smelling litter and put it in one of the cat boxes. None of the cats would go in that box. I dumped the whole unused thing and put in the unscented and it was business as usual.

There is a good possibility she doesn't like the smell of the clean litter. You might try a different brand. We use Tidy Cats Multi-Cat litter and it seems to be good, seeing as how we have 6 cats.

The ammonia smell might draw it, wash out the tub with bleach and water...50/50 don't use your hand and don't rinse. Try and do it near the time it tries to do it's business. Also leave the litter pan near the tub. If all else fails go to pet store and get drops that you can put in litter pan to attract the cat.....good luck

My cat used to do that if she was caught short before i got home in time to let her out. Now she has a litter tray and it hasn't happened since.
Could be the litter or where it is in your home. Cats like privacy.

I'd really need more details for this one...where is the litter box? What kind of litter are you using? What kind of box is it?

I'd say that she doesn't like her box for a specific reason.....give up some details.

cats are stubborn- she may not like the scent of the litter or it may not be private enough for her - try locking the bathroom door she she does not have a choice in the matter - also she may be allergic to the litter , like I am - try an unscented brand- if this fails then she is truly doing it to annoy you very catty indeed

It could be a sign of infection or a sign that she doesn't like the litter, as other people have mentioned. You may want to take her to the vet to eliminate the possibility of infection from the list.

Ask your vet. He/she may have some good advice about her behavior. Close the bathroom door, and keep the litter box somewhere else other than the bathroom.

It could be that another cat sprayed in the area and the cat is trying to cover-up the smell.
