I don't believe in religion, I believe in discipleship. People can hide in religion and follow set rules for their lives instead of thinking for themselves and going through the Spirit's transformation, robbing themselves of a real spiritual life.

I don't believe in organized religion because I believe people can communicate directly with God, or the Creator, or the Great Spirit, or their Higher Power. People don't need to sit passively in church while someone else does the communicating for them. Organized religious groups have far more power than they should, they have a lot of money, and many of them control and manipulate the heck out of their church members. They are often arrogant and judgemental and lack total respect for the beliefs of people from other groups. So much killing and wrongdoing has been done by people against each other in the name of religion. I guess for me, the issue is basically a lack of trust. I especially don't trust religious leaders who don't want their members to think and question, they just want them to believe and blindly follow like sheep. Sooner or later, these leaders are embroiled in one scandal or another. I have more trust in deeply spiritual people. Religious people are not necessarily spiritual, and spiritual people are not necessarily religious. I believe people need to know the difference between right and wrong, and they should strive to follow the correct path. People need a philosophy to live by, which is why I study Buddhism. Rather than spending time in church, performing rituals or talking about my religion with others, I prefer to spend my time doing kind and thoughtful things that help people and make this world a better place. Actions are more important than words to me.

I do not believe in religion because I have yet to find a religion that does not contradict itself or pass logic tests. Religion in my mind is a way to calm the masses, if you research the origins of religion you can clearly see that they are man made creations and have evolved over the years. Also the belief in an all powerful being that is perfect in every way is nonsensical. If he were perfect he would not need us, because he would already be content. Also why would he decide to hide in the shadows? Why not demonstrate some of his power to give the nay-sayers proof. Basically, I do not believe because their is not any evidence and in my mind no reason to believe.

Religion is a manmade concept. I choose to follow what I feel to be the correct path. However you view the underpinnings of the universe to work, I hope that they are truly yours, and not just what someone told you to believe in.

Peace.

Great men in history (Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, etc.) have experienced genuine spirituality. In other words, their relationship with God is unique, as any relationship with God should be. Religion is the codification and ritualization of the spirituality of great men in an attempt to duplicate that spirituality, which is impossible and absurd.
