The best part is we are in the full glow of summer, so bright sunny days are pretty much guaranteed. For your lil boys 1st b-day, he won't remember a thing, so gear it for the family and friends to be memorable to share it with you and your precious child.

Make a special little cake for your 1 year old to destroy on thier own. Everyone else eats a piece from the cake you think will appeal to your guests.

Make it a great family gathering. Outdoor bbq, softball game, water balloon\egg toss...etc. Like I said, the baby won't remember it, but the family will. The fav pics will be.......baby eating his cake, grandparents putting baby to sleep, uncle falling on his face trying to catch pop-up, cousins creaming each other with water balloons. If you have enough young children attending, pinatas always a hit.
As far as theming it, think about what you already see for your son's future. Will he be president, rock star, movie mogul, .........make it about the qualities you see present already with him. It is fun to treat them right now as if you are raising the child who may one day rule the world. This party is about your family seeing this tiny life progressing and celebrating it to it's full extent!

Did you say 1st party? The child is one? Don't go too crazy. He will need a nap before it is over anyway. When my son turned one I made a special teddybear cake. He hugged it. Luckily I had made cupcakes for the guests which were mainly family. I mean how many friends can a one year old make. We had hot dogs and burgers and enjoyed being with family. The birthday boy had been down for a nap at least an hour by the time the burgers were done. So keep it simple. This is mainly a family thing rejoicing on your child turning one. Save the big stuff for when the child can appreciate it too. Like 5 or so.

Cars is hot right now. The movie, give him a themed party. But one year olds, can be tricky. HE will be asleep at the party, and the other children will need a nap too. SO make sure you have something for the adults to do. You might wanna create a waterpark in the yard. WIth hotdogs, and snowcones and all. You can rent the thingamajiggers that squirt water. And serve cupcakes. Lots of Pictures!!!!

You can have a pirate party. Make the maps on brown sacks and hide treasures, ie: gold chocolate coins, pennies, shinny rocks, play jewlery, you get the idea. Make pirate hats out of black construction paper and decorate with glue and glitter. Make eye patches out of black paper and ribbon. Get a bunch of bandanas and tie them around everyones heads. Get those large hoops in the craft department and make earrings out of them. Take rinestones and buttons and pipecleaners and make rings. The cake can be a treasure chest with the chocolate coins flowing out of it and black koolaide (purple and orange). You can add dry ice for an effect to this koolaide at halloween....
The games can include anything that pirates are known for...watch Pirates of the Carribean...I think you can even find plastic or some type of birds in the craft departments also.
Have fun....

just because of his age, i would say blues clues, sesame street, or diego. i would try to do it at your house. no sense in paying to rent somewhere when he is too young to remember anyway...save the money for other birthdays when he's older. family and friends mean more than a lavish party. invite everyone!

properly you are able to employ a clown then set up an pastime the position all the little ones can make mask of their wide-spread animal contained in the circus (in simple terms make a paper plate mask, with a band) ummm... make a themed cake and u can make "clown camp" the position u promises the little ones "clown" facepaints then prepare them distinct emotions a clown makes and how they act so that they are frequently clowns themselves.. yet im guessing your more effective for thomas the prepare so that you promises them "conductor" makeovers then have a scavenger hunt to locate all the products to a prepare chain.
