10 minutes after she finishes a meal, she is saying she is hungry and wants to eat. Do you think I should be giving her more food at that point or ignoring it? Do you know of any healthy snacks (but don't taste or look like healthy food) that are good?

Sometimes its best to give them small healthy meals all day instaed of three main meals. My kids love sliced apples and string cheese. Yogurt can be used for dipping.

My daughter did it too, though it seems she had egough food she wanted more right away and then if she didn't have that, because:"You just had a meal" she was hungry at night and I had to nurse her. Now she has dinner around 6, after dinner I put some pasta or potatoes on a table in a livingroom, she walks around and stuff herself incredibly again. Then she has full belly At 8 has a bath and then goes to sleep and sleeps till 6 or 7. I don't do this after lunch, because I think that would be crazy, because I watch her if she really eats the food and doesn't just carry it around, placing it under something or into something. As long as your child doesn't look skinny it should be fine.

Guess what? My 21 month-old has been doing this for months. "I'm a-hungry!"

She may be confused about what hungry means...
>> a pain in the belly from gas = hunger pains
>> that she just ate, the act of other's eating, a table set for eating = hungry = all food related activities
>> she is expecting a treat, aka something better than the chicken rice and broccoli she just ate.

If she has stopped eating on her own accord, and has been offered a balanced full meal, then just laugh her off. "You just ate silly girl!" or "Not now, we're going to lunch soon..." as appropriate.

I would not recommend giving her snacks, because you'll be training her to beg for treats, leading to some bad eating habits.

My 2 year old does that he likes to eat fruit after his meals he usually eats it all too. She might still be hungry having a growth spurt or any other reason sometimes I think my son just didn't like his dinner that much and wanted something else. Just the other day he wanted a bowl of raspberries for breakfast and after I gave it to him he was asking for strawberry shortcake so I gave him a little of both and because I didn't eat yet I just finished whatever he didn't eat.

It may be for attention but I recall an article on TV (dateline or 48 hours? not sure) but a girl would be constantly eating. The parents had to lock all the food in the fridge...literally! I think she had a condition where she didn't have the sensation of feeling full. It was sad because she was always asking for food and because of obesity, the parents had to say no. Hopefully, your child just wants what she thinks is love.

She is saying it the same reason my 3 year old is, because it's a word she knows. You give her food, a toddler's stomach is only the size of their fist, give them enough to fill their little tummies. If she asks for seconds give her a much smaller portion at this point she should be full. If she continues to say it you know it's simply her saying a word she knows and tell her no you are not hungry right now.

First of all most kids will stop eating when they are full, unless you are giving them junk food and they can never get enough of that. Try a schedule. Breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, and then dinner. Let your child know thet will stick to this schedule. For snacks try fresh fruit, yogurt, graham crackers w/cream cheese is a hit grilled cheese, pb&j cut with cookie cutters. kids like to help too, have them help you prepare it.experiement but stay away from the junk and sweet juices.Be firm you are the parent.

She is going thru a growth spurt. Feed her when she says she is hungry. Give her fresh fruits and veggies and some yogurt. Cut up veggies with some dip, or some fruit cut up in small pieces with some yogurt dip. Or even cheese and crackers are a good snack.

If this is new for her, she is probably just going through a growth spurt. I'm assuming that she is not overweight. If she isn't, her body is just using everything she takes in. I have found that dairy products kill the appetite pretty fast, so you could try some low-fat yogurt or mozzarella string cheese sticks. These are both healthy, kids like them, and it should decrease her appetite. Good luck.

Maybe she's about to have a growth-spurt. My god-children have periods when they're constantly "starving", and then shoot up an inch or two. Could be time?

Healthy snacks: Carrots / celery / veggies & fruit, rice cakes, sugar-free jello or pudding, granola bars, yogurt, fruit roll-ups, dried fruit...
