Good question! AIDS originated in africa from my understanding because scientist went over there and started testing on the people and the monkeys. After that people started years later getting sick and dieing after that they found a cure and things just started to get out of hand from there. now they have a cure but you have to be some one like magic johnson to get evena look at the cure.

In Africa, they were suppressing the immune system so that people would not reject transplants. They were doing it with something experimental, and it spread. I do not know the name of what they were using, but it did cause the aids problem. The New England Journal of Medicine is a good place to get answers. Patient Zero was a French-Canadian who came down with the then mystery illness, but kept having sex with men and women, spreading the illness to over 500 people. the virus is thought to have originated in chimps in Africa, where it does not cause any harm or health issues for the chimps; virus mutation and transmission into the human system is thought to have been brought on by contact with infected chimp blood or tissue (i.e. hunting and eating chimp meat). mutation followed and transmission via human to human contact (blood, bodily fluids) spread the virus.

I heard on some talk show primetime or 20/20 that there are cures for many diseases but the drug companies don't release them because they would lose money in the long run.
