I suffer from insomnia in a horrible way. In order to sleep even a few hours I take a medicine that shuts the thinking proccess down and has a mild non addictive sedative in it to induce sleep.

So to answer your question, yes I can stop thinking.

Actually, a person's brain can stop processing information under at least two different circumstances: the first is a lack of sleep; the second is during a state of shock.

If I watch TV or sing stuff stuck in my head, I can limit my thinking only down to the bare minimum of involuntary tasks of breathing, blinking, and letting my heart beat.

I've heard people talk about being able to completely clear their minds, but I'm always thinking of SOMETHING, even thinking about not thinking, lol.
