if you want the best thats Garmin but your going to pay for it. The pioner AVIC is good too! I do know that kenwood is coming out with a new one sometime this summer and its to run under 1,000.

Depends on your budget... But what about TOM TOM Sat Nav. Basic one starts at £150ish through to top models at £450ish.

Not cheap but quality, I like TomTom.com,,,and they sell portables/plug ins....as opposed to buying an entire car with one installed.
You still need to subscribe however, but they offer various types and memory, cards and preinstalled.
