I received a letter to pay child support. I did not take a blood test. The court want me to provide income information. I signed the birth certificate but I don't know if the child is mine. Several years ago my ex"s husband called and told me that the child is his and she told him that I signed the birth certificate against her will. The court paper I received has his last name for the child.

How old is the child? You might still be able to challenge paternity, but you need to act quickly. HIRE A LAWYER!

If you signed the birth certificate/Acknowledgement of paternity, it might be harder to now challenge paternity.

That said, if you are the legal father, and the child was given your or her last name at the child's birth, she should not have been able to change the baby's name without your permission. You are the legal father, and that gives you certain rights. HIRE A LAWYER.

Did I mention, HIRE A LAWYER!?

What these people are saying is not necessarily true. My ex signed the birth certificate and then asked for a paternity test when we broke up and I asked for support. Get a lawyer quick and ask them to ask for a paternity test for you and the kid.

when u go to court tell the judge that u learned their is a possibility the child might not be yours. and if you signed the birth certificate they she cant change the last name legally without your consent.. we knew that the guy who my sister thought ws her dad wasnt and my mom went after the real father for child support so he gave his info. then when they went to court he told the judge a paternity test needs to be taken cause when my mom got pregnant she wasnt with him at the time she was with my sisters real father.. so they took it and all and then they dismissed his case and put the child support on the real father. but my sister was little, and i was watching one of those judge shows and this guy was paying support for a kid and when the kid was 17 they took a paternity test and it wasnt his and the court said all well u agreed to pay child support so it really depends, but get a lawyer they relieve the stress. hope this helps! its a very stressful cituation i know

Here in Massachusetts the biological father must be notified for a name change and or adoption process. IT MUST be listed in the newspapers as well as the father being served notice. This is if the where abouts of the father are known. And in your case they obviously knew/know where you are. MORE so if you ARE paying child support. I'd think you need to speak to a lawyer at this point tho. Good Luck.
