i'm really puzzled.... although if it was true it would be a shock to mankind

Is it true? Given the Catholic Church has had over 200 years to perpetuate this cover up it is difficult to tell. However, there is evidence that it is true and whilst people now say it was a hoax (The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail) it would appear that the Church may have gotten to them.

You will find the answer in your own soul. Do you believe 2000 years or misogynistic teaching and lying. Or the evidence of some of the greatest thinkers in the world?

At the end of the day there is nothing wrong with Christianity, it's just that no one has done it properly yet, and the Catholic Church is the worst offender.

You will also find that replies to your very sensible question are just emotion; they quote text and doctrine that all refers back to the Church. These are brain-washed out pourings by people who can't think. Look for the reasoned argument to your question; that is where the truth is.

There are a number of interesting issues raised by the DaVinci Code.

One claim is that a group of people called the Priory of Sion has been protecting the bloodline of Jesus since 1099. This claim is not true. The Priory of Sion was in fact created in 1956 by Pierre Plantard. Obviously, DaVinci could never have been a grandmaster of this group since it did not exist during his lifetime.

Another claim is that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and had a child and a bloodline. There is very little reliable evidence that this ever happened. The evidence cited in the DaVinci code comes from the Gospel of Philip. It is believed to have been written in the second century or later (180-350). This is more than 100 years after the life of Jesus, and most believe it was created too late to be accurate.

Think of it this way. If I went out and wrote a book on the US Civil War (1861-1865) and told you everything you had read previously was wrong - it was the south's idea that slavery should be abolished and that the south won the war. Would you believe me? You wouldn't believe me because I could not possibly have first hand knowledge. The writer of the Gospel of Philip had no first hand knowledge either.

The DaVinci Code is a fictional writing, and should be treated as such. Keep asking questions, and keep trying to find answers. :-)

Truth is relative in this case. The Da Vinci Code is a nice piece of fiction, but it is based on some assumptions made from researchers of The Gnostic Gospels (From the Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in the late 1800's) which do exist. History gets a little muddy the further you go back. And since men put the Bible together it wouldn't be far fetched to assume that they also decided what could go in and what couldn't.

Put it this way, Dan Brown was intending to make money, so you have GOT to allow for elaboration and fiction in there. BUT, there IS truth in some of it, as these ideas have been around LONG before Dan Brown. My suggestion to you would be to pick some of the topics from the Da Vinci Code that interests you and search around on Google about them. If you are really interested, you have a lot of researching and cross-referencing to do, but the truth is not always easy to come by, ESPECIALLY where the church is involved, lol(history will show you that fact!). All I'll say is, if you like the truth, you'll not be disappointed. (It's not really a shock to the people who like to search for facts themselves, instead of just believing what they are told, anyway)

Happy hunting, bud!

:)

What ever the theory about the Da Vinci Code was, it has no evidence to support it. For example, there is no text that states Jesus had a wife. It was not discussed in any known text.

Dan Brown label the Da Vinci Code a book of fiction. What is it that you don't understand about fiction?

Sorry to say that, The Da Vinci Code is a work of Fiction. Any Historian, Biblical Historian, Art Expert and any Catholic Priest will tell you that. Also Dan Brown admitted publicly and in British court that his book is a work of fiction. Below are some examples of Fact Vs. Fiction:

The Da Vinci Code says...
“Any gospels that described earthly aspects of Jesus’ life had to be omitted from the Bible” (p. 244).

The Bible Says...
The gospels in the New Testament present many “earthly aspects” of Christ’s life such as his physical frailties (hunger, fatigue, death); emotions (anguish, outrage, love); and relational interactions (with his mother, friends, and followers).

The Da Vinci Code says...
Leonardo Da Vinci made the following comments about the New Testament: 1) “Many have made a trade of delusions and false miracles, deceiving the stupid multitude”; and 2) “Blinding ignorance does misled us. O! Wretched mortals, open your eyes” (p. 231).

History Says...
These remarks have nothing to do with Leonardo’s views on scripture. His first comment, in context, is about alchemists who claimed that they could change lead into gold. His second comment, in context, refers to the foolishness of what he called men’s “own opinions,” “lascivious joys,” and “vain splendor.” Brown completely rearranged Leonardo’s writings to make it seem in the book as if the great artist detested the Bible.

The Da Vinci Code says...
Constantine “commissioned and financed a new Bible, which omitted those gospels that spoke of Christ’s human traits and embellished those gospels that made him godlike. The earlier gospels were outlawed, gathered up and burned” (p. 234).

History Says...
First, There was no “new” Bible commissioned by Constantine. The emperor simply requested that Eusebius (the Bishop of Carthage) make fifty copies of the already existing and widely accepted scriptures. Second, no evidence whatsoever that suggests that Constantine or anyone else “embellished” Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Every single manuscript tells the same events. Third, there were no gospels burned by Constantine. Although some texts written by Arius were burned, none of them were gospels. Fourth, there were no gospels “earlier” than Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.

The Da Vinci Code says...
Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene (p. 246)

History and the Bible says...
Jesus was never married

No, it's not. It's fiction and always will be. Jesus claims to be God and the one who will give Judgement in the New Testament. The gnostic books that Brown refers to, are books written after the core New Testament of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. And, those books do not refute the core four, but support those as true. Furthermore, as I understand it, the gnostic gospels in fact have Jesus performing even more superhuman deeds than in the accepted books of the bible.

Fiction.
Fiction. Fiction. Fiction.

Really.

No one knows if it's really true or not because the simple fact is none of us lived back then. It's all a theory, and it is in the fiction section. However, I do believe it's certainly a possibility.
