I just had a call from an unknown caller a few minutes ago, too! *69 callback feature resulted in "we're sorry, the number cannot be reached with this method, please hang up now." Creepy, isn't it?! Not knowing who called you. Well, here's a few tips that you might find useful:
- "private call" usually means that the caller intentionally blocked his/her number, usually by entering *67 before your number. There's a number, but you can't see it.
- "unknown call" I discovered are just telemarketers; there's no number available at all to display so it's unknown.
So, if you get an "unknown call" don't panic. If you get a "private" number, then go ahead and panic because a real person just called your number and blocked theirs intetionally so that you wouldn't know that it's them who's calling. For what reason I don't know?
If you're so freaked out about unknown and private calls, there is a landline feature where there's a pre-recorded message asking callers to reveal their number by pressing 1 or their call won't go through. That way, all calls that get to your phone will always have a number.
But, keep in mind that the number that appears isn't always their call-back number. The call may be from an extension and the number that appears may be the main number (of a business, of a prepaid calling card company, etc).
You can also consider changing your number as a last resort.
By the way, why is your question in the hair department? :O

Yes. I once found the number for the lead singer of My Chemical Romance and talked to him. No kidding, I wanted him to wish my friend a happy graduation at Vans Warped Tour. Anyway, I used www.peoplefinders.com. You have to pay $10 to get it, but depending on your reason I'd say it is worth it.
