The United States was founded by immigrants. Yes, this is true. Many people believe this is an undefeatable argument for open borders. However, the United States was also founded by slaveholders. We obviously do not still allow slaves, at least not legally. Ergo, if we can change our society's stand on slavery, why are we vilified for changing our stance on universal immigration?

Technically-it was not founded by immigrants, it was founded by colonists from Britain who no longer wanted to pay taxes to the King.

The USA was founded by immigrants before the USA was the USA. And don't forget, it wasn't really founded by immigrants as the native Americans ( 8 million of them ) were already here. Next, the "immigrants" came here, and it was work your *** off or die - there were no social services, no ACLU, no free food stamps, medical care and schooling for the children. The only similarity between the immigrants of today and 400 years ago is the name. The immigrants of today from south of the border come here so they can work and send there income back home. The immigrants of yesteryear did no such thing. Imagine if the illegals today were taxed like everyone else? It wouldn't be such a popular place to come to as their income would be a lot less. Did you know that Mexico prosecutes immigrants to Mexico that come from all the countries in central and South America? Yet they scream at the USA as being unfair because we have even dared talk about making changes that hold them accountable to American standards.

Without immigration, the United States would have floundered long ago. It can't be compared to slavery. Slavery was seen as an answer to paying people a wage. It was cheaper to own slaves. Slaves did not build America; immigrants did.

Because the Government looks only to who might vote them into office. i.e., a strong Latino vote. They also play the good old boy network, on who can do what money wise. Common sense has never come into the issue as far as making laws that actually might make sense. (I'm only talking some cases here...)
But, the lawmakers have grossly neglected to take a strong stance on illegal immigration, regardless of what laws have been broken by lawmakers looking the other way for such a long time.

Your thinking, but lose me a little. Immigration, in this or any other country on earth, is reversed in it's true thinking and purpose; any country on earth immigrates people according to their needs. It is not based on how many people want to come here or anywhere else.

Truth be told, out of everyone living or dead, 14% were immigrants and 84% were citizens. So, who built this country?

Citizens. And immigrants according to our needs. What you are hearing to the contrary is the between the lines plea of suspending our constitution for another country.

I say don't let them get away with it.

Our families didn't come in contravention of laws. In the early days of this country immigrants were wanted. When the latest of my family came over in response to an offer of homestead land in the Dakotas, they and their neighbors donated land to build a school and more land to build a church. They paid the teacher and preacher themselves, through community groups. No one else subsidized their education or health services.

Things are different now. We do subsidize services and illegal immigrants have stretched those services so that they no longer adequately care for our own people in our border states. We foot the bill, we built the country, we have the right to say who can come in, and as importantly, HOW MANY can come in.

I think you're confusing immigration with illegal immigration.

Immigrants come here with U.S. permission, and after fulfilling certain obligations. Illegals refuse to obey laws, so why should we tolerate them?

So you're for open borders? Then how are we suppose to keep out drug dealers, murderers, child molesters, rapists, and terrorists? HOW DO WE KEEP THEM OUT WITH AN OPEN BORDER POLICY?

All countries have this requirement. ALL countries have immigration laws. To call for open borders in the U.S., but to ignore closed border policies for all the other countries on the planet just shows you to to be a hypocrite.

Look at it this way.... would you let a total stranger break into your home and live there, eating your food, drinking your beer, smoking your crack, and demanding you pay for his medical care? What if he then snuck his family in after him, and ordered you to pay for them too?

I somehow doubt you'll allow that to happen. So if you wouldn't put up with it in your home, then why would you accept it in your country???

Whats wrong with universal immigration? its illegal immigration that is the problem.

The problem is not that you don't want illegal immigration, its just the method and how it is presented that is the problem. Bashing and personal insults do nothing to further the cause of illegal issue.

The perception is most do come across as racists because of what they say about a certain group of people.

Your absolutely right, this country has already been built and that's history. That shouldn't be used to defend anything, if we open our borders, the United States will lose it's identity and that's not what our four fathers wanted.
