Ask your vet if your dog is allergic to the food you are feeding it.

give him a natural vitamin supplement such as DermCare Fatty Acid Capsules for Dogs it is
$16.99 at petsmart.com it has all the essential fatty acids to help improve the coat and keep hot spots at bay , remember the most expensive food is not always the best food read the list of ingredients I personally like Nutro Natural Choice Adult Lamb and Rice
from retailing @ $7.59 and up at petsmart.com it guarantees a healthier coat . if your dog already has hot spots use sulfordine it is a yellow liquid that clears hot spots in 3 days i get mine at the local grocery store in the pet isle. any way good luck Amy

You can not get rid of hotspots forever, because they will come back every year during the summer. I use Sulfodene First Aid Skin Medication for Dogs and it cleared up my Rottweilers hotspots in about 3 days, but everytime they come back up you have to put the Medicine on them. You can find the product at any pet supply store.

Good food? What is the first ingredient on the dog food label? It should be meat.
All breeds seem to be having lots of skin problems these days. Read the Wisconsin University weblinks...

Keep him dry. Hot spots tend to start when the coat is left wet.

I have a dog who used to occasionally get them. I now keep her buzzed down and she hasn't had any since. She had a VERY thick coat and air wasn't circulating around her skin.

could it be from having him groomed? Sometimes dogs get hotspots when they get clipped too closely, I don't know if this is a possibility with your dog, but..just a thought.
