Cut down on your calories and exercise.

The way to lose weight is to increase your exercise level while at the same time decreasing your calorie intake.

Increasing your exercise level should include both aerobic activity and weight training for maximum results. Take this step slowly so that you don't cause your body injury. Take whatever physical level you are at now and bump it up a notch. If you aren't doing anything regularly, start walking once a day. If you are already walking, try jogging or swimming or something that will get your heart rate up a little bit more. Or just walk faster or on harder courses.

Doing some form of weight training will build muscle in your body, which allows your body to burn more fuel throughout the day. It's an important part of weight loss/weight maintenance that is often overlooked.

Reducing your calorie intake involves making smarter food choices (low calorie foods with lots of nutrients) and eating smaller portions of each.

It's a tough road and it will take long term effort, so be prepared to work at it for a long time. If you mess up one day, don't worry overmuch about it. Just get back on track the following day.

If you are seriously obese, you may want to work with a physician to design a program that will allow you to lose weight at a healthy pace.

You can do it if you work at it!

Of course dieting by following a balanced diet and exercising are the key
to your success. However, I have found that joining a group like TOPS or Weight Watchers and attending meetings and weighings weekly are a great motivator. You get to share your tips and recipes with other members and they are there for you when you are struggling with a bad week! Good Luck and remember eating well and exercising is a way of life that you must keep doing all your life... not just to loose a few pounds but in order to keep the pounds off.
