The image of God refers to the immaterial part of man. It sets man apart from the animal world, fits him for the “dominion” God intended (Genesis 1:28), and enables him to commune with his Maker. It is a likeness mentally, morally, and socially

Does spirit have an image? Or does image mean as perceived? As is always the case semantics makes all the difference, as Alice said to the Cheshire cat "the problem with words is that you can make them mean so many things......."

I think we are created as God perceived we should be, his concept of what is workable and good, but we also have a soul, which we do not see, but is immortal, the real question is where will your soul spend eternity?

God says that He is a Spirit and we should worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

I will explain this to you, like I did to my son, many years ago when his Great-Grandad died.

People are like eggs. When you are making yourself an egg, you crack the shell, throw it away and cook what's inside, cause that's what the egg really is. What makes us human is our shell. What is really the real person is on the inside, their spirit. This is what God wants from us because one day, our physical bodies will be discarded through death and that which is really us will go to Him.

Yes, we are spirits. Some good, some bad. What you are is what you choose, of your own free will. God calls all men and women but we are free agents and have a choice of whether we will allow Him into our lives to mold and make us after His likeness. Those who do will receive eternal life. Those who don't, will also receive eternal life with the added bonus of hellfire, torment, weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth.

It's up to you.

I believe when God said that he created us in his Image he was referring to our trinity being like his Trinity. Before you scratch me off as being a fanatic let me explain myself. God's Trinity is made up of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We are a trinity in one sense. The sense that we have a body, a soul and a spirit.
Now, I believe that is what God meant when he said "in his image". The image of the trinity. I don't think that he made us to look exactly like he looks. He could have, but that is not where my belief lies at this time.

Dear bibi,

When the Lord created the first man (Adam), he was empowered by God. Adam could fellowship (commune) with God and obey Him. Adam also had a physical body in which he could interact with the perfect environment (there was no disease or ravenous animals at the time). Adam, at that time, had no clothes because he was innocent before God. Incidently, when the Lord made Eve from one of Adam's ribs, she was empowered by God and innocent before the Lord also. When Adam and Eve rebelled against the Lord by eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they sinned against the Lord and died spiritually. That is, their fellowship with God was terminated and they became enemies of God (rebels). The Lord could not allow them to live eternally with this sinful nature, so He also imposed physical death on mankind. Spiritual death involves being separated from God forever in hell, which is far worse than physical death. However, in the Lord's mercy and graciousness, He made a plan of salvation. All of this is found in the Bible, however, may I suggest looking at: www.familyradio.com? They have a booklet youcan read online entitled "What Must I Do To Become Saved?" I hope that this will help you.

Yes. God has a body of flesh and bone. One reason we are all here is to obtain a physical body also. Prior to this life, we all lived with the Father as spirits.

Of course, our time here on earth is short according to spiritual time. We are here in our earth suits, when spirit leaves home our earth suit dies. God is all and in all, This means His image is everything we see, say and do, to be created in His image means we are responsible to learn, teach and answer prayers.

Is the image of an object an object? Of course it is. But is the image of a pipe a pipe?
