Because I for one cannot understand how two adults who love and care for each other could EVER be misconstrued as "evil".
Perhaps I'm missing something. Perhaps your book of outdated bronze-age jewish mythology says something about how only certain people are allowed to be in love.
If you ask me, any mythological sky-pixie who wants to deny love and affection to anyone of legal age, is a worthless waste of time. And that goes for his followers.
And no, I'm not gay myself. I do on the other hand, have very good friends that are and I'm utterly sick to the teeth of watching them be belittled by people who don't deserve to clean the mud off of thier shoes. You know who you are...

Well this is pretty much the reaction I thought I'd get.
Wesinid, congrats! You win todays prize for the "brainless moron award". If you honestly think that there is ANY similarity between two gay adults do with what a pedophile does to a child then you need help. Professional help and you need it now.
I asked this question on the Gay, lesbian and transgendered board and I got 10 replies and most of them were well thought out if not humane.
Not so here. So it makes me even happier that I was never brainwashed into your disgusting death cult.
The more you people talk, the more reasonable people walk away from your mythology. You really are your worst enemies. Keep it up!

For FrChuck,
Thanks for the laugh fat-***! For a catholic priest to call what someone else does in the bedroom "unnatural" is the height of irony.
Two adult men having consentual sex is "unnatural" but one of you sick fuks buggering little boys is ok right? Do us all a favor, and die of a debilitating aneurism ok?

Tiff,
Did the stupid fairy leave you a double helping lately?
Homosexual behaviour has been observed in ALL mammalian species. From mice and rats all the way up to our closest primate cousins. Please get even a modicum of education before you speak ok? Thanks.

Sassy Sandy,
You're not serious, tell me your joking. Tell me you're not really this stupid. Please.
You're actually quoting Leviticus. Great job moron, let's see what else that book says is an "abomination". Oh look, shrimp is an abomination. As is all shellfish. Hope you lay off of it for life there Sandy.
What else now, oh, it looks like leviticus thinks that bats are unclean birds. That's odd, since god himself wrote the bible he of all pixies should know that they're mammals not birds. Doesn't say much for his knowledge of his own creations does it?
And for you to tell gays and lesbians how they do or don't feel is like a cat telling a dog what it's like to be a bird. Moron.

Not feeling a little bitter are you Asker?

Or are you feeling convicted?

If it is not such a big deal to you, then why do you place so much emphasis on the opinion of those who believe in this "sky-pixie"?

I'm willing to accept that homosexuality is normal. In that case though, who are we to say that pedophelia is not ok? Who is to say that an adult male and a minor male child can not have a consentual meaningful sexual relationship?

Why should we say incest is bad? Who cares if there are genetic anomalies that occur, heck with abortion legalized we can always avoid having to see those? The important thing is that we support two people who love and are committed to one another, right?

Beastiality should be taught in our public schools as normative too. Heck, with all that we spend on our pets, it is obvious that we love them. And I'm sure when Fluffy puts its head on your lap, it must be looking for some sex. Since we only have to accept that "NO" means "NO" then we don't have to worry about animals resisting sex since they can't speak human languages (except for some birds I guess).

And you know, that person who desires to get naked and have an orgasm while rolling all over the hood of their car is ok too. And why should I say they can't do that only in the privacy of their home. It must be love, how many people can say they spent $20,000 on their significant other in a year.

Think about it.

I think the point of the question is to answer it *without* resorting to "because the Bible says so, that's why." Part of the point, according to many theologians (aquinas, anyone?), of the New Testament was replacing the older, superficial laws of the Old Testament with the deeper law, that of love - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It was the moment when humans graduated from simply following rules (which is how a child should behave) to actually making moral decisions in order to best follow that law (which is how an adult should behave.) So when asked to make a moral judgment, pointing to a rule in a book is kind of missing the point.

But. That being said, let's look at what said book actually says.

Leviticus. Yes, levitical law outlaws homosexuality. It also outlaws shrimp, cheeseburgers and bacon, and gives strict instructions on how to clean your oven. If you are a strict Hasidic Jew and you keep completely kosher every day of the year, then I commend you for your devotion to your faith and you may use Leviticus as an argument against homosexuality. For all the rest of you, it is hypocrisy. Find a better argument. Next!

Sodom and Gomorrah. Yes, the cities were destroyed for their sins. However, take a closer look at the story. These were cities in chaos. We have a description of a society in which it was considered par for the course to have roving bands of sodomites prowling the streets looking to gang-rape tourists. Apparently, everyone except Lot and his family were ok with this. I'd have rained fire on them too. The resemblence between this sorry state of affairs and a loving same-sex relationship is kind of like the difference between... well, I can't think of a comparison drastic enough, but you get my point. Not the same thing at all. Thus, no reason to conclude condemnation of the one equals condemnation of the other. Next!

St. Paul. Ok. I know what I'm going to say will sound like heresy to the literal-interpretation-of-the-Bible crowd, but here it is. Paul was a great theologian and a brilliant man, but he was not Jesus. Matter of fact, he never met Jesus. (Who, by the way, never mentioned homosexuality at all. You'd think that if the subject were all that important to God, He would have said something.) He was just a man, and his ideas were just ideas. Now, this still doesn't mean he's wrong, but it does mean he's not automatically right. Now, bear in mind that Paul was also the one who said "It is better to marry than to burn." Basically, Paul thought all sex was evil. All of it. He considered marriage to be ok, because it was at least sanctioned sex and therefore not as sinful as unsanctioned, but to Paul the ideal was no sex at all. Which I have a hard time believing is actually God's take on the whole thing, because a) that would, y'know, kill us off within a generation, and b) it directly contradicts one of the first instructions we were given back in the Garden of Eden, i.e. "Go forth and multiply." So we can tentatively conclude that Paul, far from passing on God's word, is (at one point at least) offering his own opinion on the subject of sex - and also that he's perhaps not the most objective person on that topic. And yet our most compelling Biblical justification for deeming homosexuality immoral is that Paul is telling us God doesn't like it. Ok, sure, he may be telling the truth, but you have to admit his credibility is a little shaken. So you can use this argument, but please be aware it is very weak.

Ok, so, Biblical justification for homosexuality=bad is boiled down to "Because Paul says so and I'm choosing to believe him." That's not a moral judgment, though. What is the *reason* that homosexuality is wrong?

It's unnatural? So is this computer. Try again. Next!

It's icky? So is birth, darlin'. That doesn't make it immoral. Next!

It doesn't produce children? True, but neither do infertile people, or priests, nuns, or monks, or people who choose to use protection, or people who choose to adopt instead... you get my point. And none of these people get the same level of condemnation as homosexuals. Next.

What is the next? What *actual* moral justification is there for claiming homosexuality is wrong? Using reason and logic and actual ethical argument, mind you. Why is homosexuality evil?

I'm a bigot. I'm a completely unrelated bigot, but enough so that I felt I could answer the question. That and I have a vestid interest in the subject.

The reason that people have a problem with gays is because the bible has a few instances where people who happen to be bisexuals have broken the hospitality rules. (They weren't homosexuals because their behavior didn't fit with the known behavior of homosexuals of the day.)

It isn't a matter of the ten commandments. It is a matter of hospitality to guests only. It has nothing to do with homosexuality.

Through the bible there are quite a number of lessons on how one should treat a guest in their homes. You protect them from those outside who wish to harm them in one way or another to the point where you offer your own daughter rather than let them be taken by those who would do them harm.

My vested interest in the subject by the way is the hospitality laws. My religion (Sumerian Reconstructionism) is big on the middle eastern hospitality laws. Implying that they had to do with homosexuality is an insult to my religion and those ancient people of the bible who also followed the custom.

Leviticus 18:22-24

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: KJV

Contrary to what the gay community wants to believe, people are not born gay or lesbian. God did not make you that way and he does not think it is ok. God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!! Lets look at some scripture and see what God has to say.

No I am not a bigot, nor homophobic. I am a believer in the Holy word of God, and If the bible says its wrong, It is wrong. If you are read this and thinking hate you will feel hate.

The pedophile gay priests are evil. Anyone who could hurt another human being in such a way is evil in my opinion. As for those gay couples who don't try to abuse and hurt others, the only thing they are guilty of is abusing and defiling themselves. I think that is the lesser of the two evils but I am also a firm believer that what happens in the bedroom should stay in the bedroom. People shouldn't brag about how gay or strait they are. Its nobody elses business.

First off, no one is born gay...they just choose to be gay as they get older. And if you look at the human body you will see that only male and female can reproduce. Male and female bodies fit together perfectly when intertwined. I am not for gay couples but at the same time I don't really care about them. I for one don't care if they wish to engage in gross acts of "love"...which i also don't understand how gay men could possibly enjoy anal sex. Homosexuality is not normal, if it was then they would be able to reproduce. But alas, I don't care if they date and whatnot, but they have no need to be married. If they commit to each other then it is like marriage to them so why do they need legal documents stating they are married? It's not like they can have children to carry on "the family name".

The Bible speaks about people calling good evil and calling evil good. Anything that violates God's word is evil. Just because we may not perceive something as evil does not mean God sees it that way. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. I'd rather be considered a bigot or "intolerant" and be right with God, than be seen as good by people and invite the wrath of God.
And just because I see homosexuality as sin (as God's word reveas), does not mean that I don't like homosexuals. People that hate are not walking in the truth either.

The only laws of GOD are the laws of nature....
1- it doesn't break the laws of nature cause it never produces off spring.
2- do not destroy love.... everyone is equal and has the right to love and be loved,
3- we are what god created us to be. and if some are gay it's what they are meant to be.

Like I always say, nobody does anything to stop cruel things from happening because it doesnt "effect" them.
Then, one humid and boring night, they come for you, yes, YOU. They drag you out of your house, along with your loved ones, stick you in a cage, burn a number in your forehead, and work you to death.
Dont worry though, 40-50 years later everybody has already forgotten!
