Without illegal aliens, the price of agricultural products and other goods and services will NOT soar. The definitive study on this subject is the University of Iowa's "How Much Is That Tomato?" The study concludes that 'since labor is such a small component of the end-price of agricultural products (which includes price to the growers, transportation costs, processing /storage costs, grocers' profit, etc.), hardly the making of $10 heads of lettuce, $25 hamburgers, $1,000 per night Days Inn hotel rooms like the pro-illegal alien lobby claims.
Illegal aliens are NOT doing work Americans won't do. What jobs won't Americans do? In most states, Americans still clean their own houses, do their own landscaping, clean hotel rooms, work in restaurants and fast food places, paint houses, DO CONSTRUCTION WORK, work in airports, etc. - just like we have the past 200 years before "our" government allowed these people to invade our country. There are 18 million Americans who cannot find a job, so illegal aliens who are coming here to work do so at peril to American workers

If that is what I am threatened with than so be it. I will claim my American heritage, and become exempt from paying taxes, then it won't matter to me. It is the illegal aliens, and legal immigrants of this country that will suffer the most by a higher cost of living. If you want to help deter more criminals with this act go for it. Native born Americans of more than three generations have an ace in the hole that our government sure does not want to see put into place. But, maybe it is time that the illegals of this country start giving back to the American people by paying the taxes that Americans can become exempt from. If Mr. Bush wants amnesty he better be prepared to add in that no American born citizen should ever have to pay taxes again. We've paid our dues, time to utilize the benefits.

We live in a farming community, and my kids used to picked veggies all summer long for the since they turned 12. The illegals were just hired on at the farm where my kids picked, now they won't hire my kids to come back to work because they have someone who will pick for .30 a pound verses the .32 a pound they pay the kids to work. They didn't change the price of the veggies in the stand, they just took my teenagers summer jobs. I say, "Out with the illegals"! They can always find someone legal to do the work.

I think it's DISGUSTING to pay someone 4 dollars an hour to do that back breaking work! Hiring illegal workers is wrong no matter where they are from.
Yeah, I would rather pay more for produce knowing someone was paid a decent wage to pick it than eat off the backs of quasai-slaves. And I'm a republican......

the price might not rise too much though. If the illegal are deported, there will be less demand for the goods. To increase revenue, companies need to reduce price to boost sales. If the immigrants are really deported, our economy will suffer for a long time until it is eventually recovered. The wage will be increased, which force companies to cut the number of employees. There will be more demand for welfare, we won't be saving tax money.

What people are unwilling to admit, is that if all the illegals were deported and the people who are trying to come into the country legally, were allowed, the LEGALS would more than make up for the illegals! I still say it is a gross miscarriage of justice to reward illegals and deny those who are trying to do it honestly.
We tell our children to be honest and don't tell a lie and yet we reward those who do the same things. How do you tell a child it's OK for adults to lie and cheat but not the child?
This country is made up of many nationalities but they should be here LEGALLY!!!!
I would gladly pay more for anything but it wouldn't happen!

The best thing to do if first of all get rid of all of these illegals who are breaking the law by just being here and then deal with the rest of this with the money we save from what they are stealing from the programs that we US citizens pay for

The cost of a head of lettuce pales in comparision as to what they are costing us in every other way. Free breakfasts and lunches at school, free medical care, the cost of literature and bilingual teachers, low income housing, low income utility bills it goes on and on. Do you think this stuff is free?
They may be cheap labor for the people who hire them, but not for the average American taxpayer. A US citizen should not have to work for peanuts, and illegal aliens are entitled to nothing.

It wouldn't even be close. There have been studies done on this and the price of lettuce would go up about a nickle. On the other hand, we'd lose a huge drain on our schools and other services. The economic case against having illegals here is overwhelming. It isn't their best argument.
