He started complaining about their service. We've been going there for over 20 years. Well, while he was bitching about how sloppy the food looked, I noticed a hair on his toast. I didnt tell him. He would throw a fit and make a scene and I bet we never go back. Would you have told him if it be your husband? and YES...he ate the toast.

No, I would have been too embarrassed to tell him. I know that a customer is entitled to and deserves good service as well as good food but I too, don't like to cause a scene. I think maybe he was just in a bad mood... perhaps, just like the cook. Perhaps it was the cook's first day. I know that there are some "old" people who think they should get preferential treatment because they are old and cross but I think if he had gone quietly to the manager, he would have been satisfied with the results rather than rant on to you, who has no control of that end of the situation.

Is this complaining a one time incident or has it been happening recently? If it's one time, he might have just been having a bad day and that's where he vented his frustrations. If it's happened more than once, he might be looking for another place to try and this is his way of getting out of going there. I wouldn't put too much thought into this unless it continuously happens. If it does (or is), then maybe have a chat and find out what's going on.

lol, that is a funny story. I think it depends on the situation and the person you are dealing with. In your case, keeping it quiet was the right thing, or asking him to go and get something while you take it off the toast so he doesn't ingest it.

My mom, if she has food anywhere on her face and you tell her, she freaks out and starts making it a big deal so needless to say, even now that I am on my own, if she has food on her face, i don't say a word.

I wouldn't have told him. People who gripe are not going to get the best because the staff know perfection won't be good enough. I've gone into restraunts and made a point to tell the crew why I keep coming back and how much I like their hard work and you should see what a wonderful meal I get.

Does your husband have any idea what waitstaff and cooks do behind closed doors when people complain, you really don't want to know that wasn't all that was on that toast!!!

I wouldn't have told him about the hair, however, I would have tried to remove the hair without him seeing me. Sounds like maybe he was having a bad day?

Absolutely I would have told him. Regardless if you have been going 1 day or 100 years you shouldn't tolerate unhealthy presentation.

I think I would have kept my mouth shut too. However, maybe it's time to find a new favorite spot.
