you can but, they will only play on your pc.in your dvd recorder thay will not play in a cd player.

If the person is looking for data for his MP3 player and will copy it using his PC with a dvd-rom, sure.
Most likely they goofed and you'll need to exchange the disks. Ask them what they want to do with the copies.
DVDs will never play in aCD player
