First of all, to reiterate what a couple of other people already said, chardonnay is not champagne, it's a white wine. So, you don't even know what you named your daughter after. Second of all, for the love of God, I wish people would seriously think about what they're naming their children before they submit them to a life of cruel jokes and embarassment. Why would you name your child after a wine? Can you imagine someone named Chardonay being the president of a company, or a doctor or dentist? Would you trust them?

Chardonnay is actually not champagne. It is one of three grapes that make up Champagne and other sparkling wines but it is a white wine predominantly. I would have never thought of it for a child's name but it is very nice and definitely unique. I would say, as long as you don't work in the wine industry, it would be great. If you do work in the wine industry though, I might avoid it - that's why I could never use it. Some people might think it's overboard for me. I don't know anyone else personally but I went to school with a girl called Mioche which was probably the most unique name in my class.

Chardonnay was a comedy name in the programme footballers wives, to emphasise how tacky and un-intelligent that world can be. I have seen a few people have missed the point and called their babies Chardonnay/Chardonay - but basically, it's the name of a bottle of cheap plonk (it's not champagne, love!) - it's not pretty at all. People must be really laughing at you!!!!! And your poor daughter.............

You're not gonna like this but that's the beauty of freedom of expression. I know everyone's different and I respect your decision but the names like Chardonay, Chanel, Chelsea, Demi, etc sound so tacky and cheap. Makes you sound like you come from a council estate. Sorry if you're not but that's how it looks. There are plenty of unique names you could think of that don't sound "common". You might as well have called her "Charlemagne" or "Lambrusco".

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but I totally agree with Bronnimoose. Do you really believe when you say your daughter's name to people they will really say to your face"that is such a crass name" People are being polite. Just by spelling your child's differently doesn't make it any less tacky.
The poor child has to learn to spell it too. And the confusion for those trying to spell it on communications to her in the future.
I love wine, but would'nt give my girls fanciful names. It really isn't cool, trendy or classy. Sorry. :((

I love unique names. I think it is very unique and original. Great choice! I like when I hear a special and unique name. Everybody is special and unique, so let their name match! But I bet a lot of people ask you about how she was named after a champagne, huh?

Sorry, but I think the name sounds like a chav's name.
You clearly haven't separated the Footballers Wives TV program from reality and have now burdened your daughter with a terrible name that she will have to take through life with her.

Chardonnay is a variety of White Grape and not a name. It is NEVER used to create champagne. It creates medium dry white plonk.
Its grotesque as a name and extraordinarily pretensious.

Not my cup of tea at all (or should be glass of wine). Naming a child after an imaginary person of TV is very unimaginative.
poor sod when shes at school, will probably be a few of them in her class as well!!
