TOTALLY agree with the "go in October" theory......they are trying to fill quota's and and will take ANYONE within reason.
Credit check......hmm....thats new to me....or perhaps I just didn't care when I joined BECAUSE I didn't have ANY credit. Scoliosis.....I had it....minimally when I was in highschool (I wore a brace for a summer) and it didn't stop me from entering.
There is no doubt you will get in......STOP worrying.
Here is my biggest worry for YOU. I was 18 when I entered. I was young, skinny, childless and full of energy. When I was tested for JUST the BASICS required for physical fitness......I flunked. All those aerobics classes didn't do a thing for me, when I had to do a certain amount of push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups.
I ended up going to a Fitness Committee BEFORE I could even enter basic training AND all we did ALL day long. 8 HOURS a day was muscle strengthening, running, endurance exercises. I was there 2 weeks and when I passed was able to THEN enter basic. It was a breeze after that.....I was 2 weeks ahead of everyone else physically.
As my years in the military went by and I had children......my weight and my physical fitness were constant battles I struggled with. You cannot be one pound over on a weigh-in, you must pass every PT test......so it was horrific for me (I hate running and I like donuts) and you may be the BEST soldier in the military and your section couldn't do without you etc......but if you don't keep up in those areas......it's ruff. I made it barely but I don't know if I could have.....had I entered at 26.....I admire you!

I'm going through the process of entering the Air Force too! They never mentioned a credit-check, though. My recruiter had me take the ASVAB two weeks after I got in touch with him-they give it weekly, and it's really easy (but really long). Scoliosis shouldn't affect you unless you go for a job with very specific requirements. As long as you are in good health and can do PT you should be fine. You meet the requirements to get in-you're under the cut-off age, and they usually don't care about misdemeanors, only felonies. In all likelihood, as long as you pass the physical and do good on the test, you'll get in. Just don't expect a bonus-they're only offered for six or so jobs that are understaffed. Good luck and I hope I helped!

If they don't let you join the air force, talk to them again in october. That's the beginning of the fiscal year, so they will need people then. At this point in FY 06, the air force has probably met its yearly goal, or at least expects to without difficulty.
Oh, if the air force won't test you, just talk to the army guys. They'll test you in a heartbeat. Don't worry, you won't have to join the army. Depending on how well you do on the ASVAB, it will give you more bargaining power with the air force. When you get ready to join the air force, they'll need to do a spiff change, to put the results in the air force's system. Tell them that, and they'll be impressed that you know it.

Don't sweat the scoliosis deal, I have an eight degree curvature of my spine but that didn't keep me from joining. I spent five years in the navy and five in the army. I believe it all comes down to pain, if it doesn't hurt you then they won't stop you. You don't look like Quasi Modo do you?

The test should be pretty soon. That will determine where they are going to place you when you are in. I had to wait to go in because my tech school had no openings, Then I was in tech school longer because of the security clearance I needed. Best of luck, you chose the best branch. Im my humble opinion. :)
