I hate it when a person tries to force their religion on me, either by knocking on my door, trying to make me feel bad about myself, or just flat out saying that there is no other way to live life than to follow god.

JESUS CHRIST! LEAVE ME ALONE ALREADY!

Would you like to hear their POLITICAL opinions instead?

LOL flandargo! Touché!

To answer this question, let's change the subject for a minute. What if I stumbled onto a plant that, when crushed to a pulp and mixed with the juice of pomegranate and was injected into the liver, extended the lives of lab mice by 50%? Additionally, it showed promise as an anti-wrinkle/wrinkle reversing agent, and caused body fat to be burned at twice the normal rate. AND, if that weren't enough, it also stopped terminal diseases in their tracks, erased lung and heart damage due to smoking, reversed the ravaging effects of Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Lou Gherig's, etc. The implications for humans would be staggering!

So, should I scream it from the rooftops (or at least from the QVC and Infomercial channels), or should I keep it to myself? From my perspective, keeping it to myself would be the single-most selfish act I could perpetrate on mankind. As a Christian, I've got something that I think is worth sharing with everyone. Don't get me wrong...you won't see me thumping people over the head with my Bible. BUT, if someone asks me a question regarding Christianity or any other religion, you better believe I'm going to take the opportunity to share what I believe is the most important information for humanity. (I know many people don't agree that it's "the most important." That's ok.)

Other Christians believe they've found this "miracle plant," too. But instead of waiting to be invited to share the good news, they just jump right in and start shouting from the rooftops. That's ok too. It takes all kinds of people to make all kinds of difference. Some may respond to the assertive tactics, others may need a softer approach. Others may not want to hear at all...and that is their/your choice. But you can't control what others do or say; you can only control yourself. So, if someone starts talking about something you don't want to discuss, just politely tell them the subject is off-limits. Or maybe you should challenge them to a healthy debate. Tell them your reasons for NOT believing. But if you do that, then know you're inviting them to talk, as well.

The bottom line is that this is your choice. Nobody can force you to believe. Nobody can "save" you or anyone else; that is God's job alone. Keep that in mind, and you might not feel the same kind of pressure from us mere mortals. ; )

because the mass population are ignorant to the wants of the individual. They don't care that they're disturbing you, they want you to see things their way. Most religions share traits with cults non? Everyone wants you to 'come join us' and they promise you the world... or if not that something that only they can offer. People don't see that the individual needs to discover things for themselves. The larger known religions are pressed on others, because it's what the mass population is and they feel that those that 'don't know about it' should be taught and shown why their way is so great... they don't take the time to find out if you already know about it and just don't give a flying fu** about their ways... that's why I make it a point to interupt those few that like to preach to people randomly and on the street. That way at least I'm doing my part to inform those ignorant to the wants and ideas of others that sometimes, we know and just don't care about what they think!

Well that's my two pence on that matter!

No what you are saying is really not fair. These people want to share what they believe and they feel they are giving you a great opportunity. Now you may have a stronger will and be able to restrain yourself from telling these and other people your thoughts about religion, but please take to heart that they are only trying to save your soul or something. These people see being atheist (or other non-christian) as the equivalent of being like a heroin addict. You wouldn't expect someone to see another person hurting themselves with dangerous drugs and just keeping their bloody opinions to themselves would you?

Use you big person communication skills and kindly tell them you are not seeking the information they are trying to share.

If you discovered the fountain of youth would you want to share it with others? If you discovered a fool proof way of picking winning football teams, would you want to let others know? If you discovered a drug that made you the best lover the world has seen, would you tell somebody?

Christians have discovered a great gift and want to share it with the world. It's going to happen no matter how much you resist it. Feel free to disagree with it, but don't think you will stop hearing about it. It's too good to keep silent.

Christians are bound by the Word of God. It is not that all people shove it down anyones throat. The difference is that if I am asked a question, or see an asked question, I MUST choose God over man. Man can not give me eternal salvation and peace, only God. NEVER turn your back on God. God does love you, He is waiting for you to come to him. You must have blind faith. God wants all people. He is just waiting for them to renounce the sins of man and come to HIM. Your question tells me that you are questioning your faith. we have all had our faith tested and even spent time mad at God for one reason or another. He is your best friend. He will forgive you, enbrace you and help lead you on the path to redemption. I turned my back to God when my daughter was born disabled. I didn't talk to God for a long time. I suffered for it. I have my faith back and I pray everyday that I don't lose it again. Faith is a wonderful thing. It will help you through the hard times. I don't beat people in the head with a Bible, nor do I knock on doors. I just pray for people and if someone is in need, I do my Christian duty to help. Religion is not your enemy. It is the way. God never lies to you, never cheats on you, and will NEVER forsake you.

Then I might suggest not posting on a religious board. No matter what religion people are most can't seem to agree with beliefs that are different from their own.

I understand why Christians do it as it is clearly written in the bible to do so but I seriously just want a sign for my door that says

"BEWARE OF MAN EATING DOGS..... unless

* you are bringing me that thing I bought from e-bay
* I or another inhabitant of my house has invited you here or
* you are Publisher's Clearing House with my million dollar check.

Thank you.

Well because I know that it's the Christians job (according to the Bible) to share their faith with people and to save the unsaved. According to the Bible...if you had the opportunity to tell someone about Jesus Christ and try to save them and you don't and they go to hell....their blood is on your hands or something like that. Basically you're responsible for them going to hell. So I know alot of Christians go crazy trying to "save" people. Just tell them you're not interested and to please leave you alone.

No one can make you feel bad about yourself and your beliefs or non beliefs unless you let them. That applies to your online life (where you are currently reading a religious forum) as well as offline.
