I bought a mug at Six flags and later saw the tag saying it was painted with lead based paint, and using it may cause birth defects. Should I just throw it away or how often can I use it so that it won´t cause birth defects?

You don't have to throw it away, it is a souvenir after all use it for a flower vase or something. But don't ever drink out of the thing. It can really cause you a lot of pain and suffering from lead poisoning and if you are a man or woman any pregnancy that occurs when you are poisoned can be resulting in abnormalties for the child. DNA is affected in a certain way. It is poison after all. and it affects you all over from thoughts to flexing your ankle then you can die or never be healthy again if you do not realize you are ill and let it go too long.

Was the Six Flags park in California? California has some extremely hard regulations about lead in products. In fact, most Christmas lights have a warning for California residents about lead on the lights (I guess as long as we don't live in California we don't have to worry). I would say better safe than sorry, though. Lead is an extremely poisonous chemical to a child. The younger the child the more potentially dangerous it can be.

Lead is bad for people. Are you SURE it said it was painted with a lead based paint? That seems really odd for something purchased at Six Flags.

The lead based paint is probably on the outside design of the mug. I wouldn't use it at all. Lead is most toxic in higher amounts, but every little amount builds up.

lead is highly toxic and i cant believe they are even selling mugs painted with lead paints, but on the same note everything seems to cause something these days, use the mug as a pen holder just dont put the pens in your mouth

It is true. Lead is very toxic and builds up your system over time. I have seen the results of lead poisoning in two small boys from the projects. These poor kids have permanent learning disabilities and low i.q.'s. Lead from dishes can kill YOU. Don't use the mug. Just put it on a shelf and admire it from afar.

were you pregnant when you used it? I wouldn't use it except maybe as a pencil holder or planter, but someone else who didn't know the danger might use it unknowingly at some point. I'd complain to Six Flags -- and how! -- and throw it away! if you were pregant when you used it.... regardless, yo should get tested for lead poisoning.

yes I would throw it away. There's too much chance of it being used accidently. Just think of the harm lead paints have already caused.

I'm honestly quite surprised that they would sell that product!!

I wouldn't use it at all. You might keep it as a pencil holder or something.

In truth, it's probably reasonably safe, unless the paint chips, and you accidentally ingest the pieces.
