David, Man shall not condone evil or rationalize sin. Homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of God and man. The creator condemns those who do not repent of this sin.

Are any of you intelligent enough to see that homosexuality was never disproved as a mental illness?

David, you missed my first part of the sentance.. how very interesting.

Oh and one more thing...

Genesis 19, 2 Peter 2:6, 8; Jude 7, Leviticus 18:22 and 24; LEV. 20:13

Christianity was never in the DSM. Homosexuality was.. point proven.

2006-06-23 11:19:43 · update #6

I do condem those priest. But that isn't what this is about, stick to the topic at hand.

2006-06-23 11:22:18 · update #7

Actulily it does because the APA. The effort to remove homosexuality as a mental disorder from the DSM was the result of power politics, threats, and intimidation, not scientific discoveries.

2006-06-23 11:30:51 · update #8

Yes I saw what you wrote but let's take this for example, the one study you listed was only 183.. that isn't enough to formulate a credible answer to the question at hand. If you wish for me to go over everything you have posted, remark on what happened in the article I posted first.

2006-06-23 11:57:03 · update #9

Another one in there, just 60 people? That doesn't prove anything.

2006-06-23 11:59:37 · update #10

It needs to go throw more study and a much larger sampling that those few studies. In the United States, the APA had to back down due to public pressure. In my own opinion, what purpose does it serve to be gay? We are attracted to the opposite sex in order to reproduce. That is the main purpose for any life form on this planet. This type of deviant behaviour seriously damages society and I am worried what our society will look like in another few decades.

2006-06-23 12:35:23 · update #11

And the point that I am trying to make is that if there wasn't political pressure, it would still be in the DSM today.

It is definitely a disorder.

Absolutely. Why do Christians have such a problem with love thy neighbor? It doesn't say love thy neighbor unless you don't like what he does...

I swear some churches spread more hate than the KKK or Nazis.

Homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of God and man. The creator condemns those who do not repent of this sin.

That is God's job, not yours. Jesus specifically said "Judge not, let ye be judged" and "let the one that is with out sin throw the first stone". Jesus was telling us that we are not to judge our brothers and sisters, that judgment is up to God.

The Bible is a guide about how you are to live your life. No where does it say it is your job to force others to comply with the Bible.

Are any of you intelligent enough to see that homosexuality was never disproved as a mental illness?

I am also intelligent enough to see that homosexuality was never proved as a mental illness. Many people see Christianity as a type of psychosis since it involves a blind belief in something that is unproven and not believed by many people.

Your source never once holds any scientific evidence that homosexuality IS a disorder. Other world organizations had already made the same moves at the time.

In addition, as early at 1900 psychiatrists began to recognize that there were no discernable differences in the psyche of "straight" or "gay" individuals. In 1951, Ford and Beach released a study finding that homosexuality was universal in 64% of societies throughout the world and was not found to be socially acceptable in some sense in many of them.

Here are the results from a studies performed on WWII soldiers:

"A common conclusion in their wartime studies was that, in the words of Maj. Carl H. Jonas, who studied fifty-three white and seven black men at Camp Haan, California, "overt homosexuality occurs in a heterogeneous group of individuals." Dr. Clements Fry, director of the Yale University student clinic, and Edna Rostow, a social worker, who together studied the service records of 183 servicemen, discovered that there was no evidence to support the common belief that "homosexuality is uniformly correlated with specific personality traits" and concluded that generalizations about the homosexual personality "are not yet reliable."

.... Sometimes to their amazement, [researchers] described what they called the "well-adjusted homosexuals" who, in [William] Menninger's words, "concealed their homosexuality effectively and, at the same time, made creditable records for themselves in the service." Some researchers spoke in glowing terms of these men. "The homosexuals observed in the service," noted Navy doctors Greenspan and Campbell, "have been key men in responsible positions whose loss [by discharge] was acutely felt in their respective departments." They were "conscientious, reliable, well-integrated and abounding in emotional feeling and sincerity." In general, "the homosexual leads a useful productive life, conforming with all dictates of the community, except its sexual requirements" and was "neither a burden nor a detriment to society." Fry and Rostow reported that, based on evidence in service records, homosexuals were no better or worse than other soldiers and that many "performed well in various military jobs" including combat (Berube, 1990, pp. 170-171, footnotes omitted)."

Finally, the studies of Evelyn Hooker, who gathered 30 self-identified homosexual men and 30 self-identified heterosexual men and then introduced them to independet researchers who were not aware of the differing sexualities of the participants performed a battery of tests and found no significant differences in the psychological make up between the two groups.

Despite the obvious political pressures in 1973, there is an abundance of significant scientific evidence that there is no psychological difference between heterosexuals and homosexuals. Gays and lesbians do face some issues more frequently (depression, addiciton), but that is almost always directly attributable not to sexuality but to rejection from family and social circles.

Nice try, but you can't really use the Bible to address scientific concerns.

ADDED NOTE TO ASKER:

I know I'm not going to change your mind, but did you even read the litany of scientific evidence that I just listed for you? Yes, politics played a role - it does in everything - but science has had it removed from all Western societies as a crime or mental disorder. The only major societies where it is considered a perversion or criminal are fundamental Islamic societies.

So, why don't you ask them for support?

SECOND NOTE TO ASKER:
I re-read the article, and it provides no scientific evidence that it is a disorder. Again, I agreed that politics played a role in the decision, but I didn't see any scientific evidence. That was my point. Even though the sample was small, that can still provide accurate results. The articles I have referenced address the earlier studies that helped define homosexuality as a disorder have been discredited by a variety of bodies for flawed methodology (using psychiatric inpatients, prisoners). You'll note that I didn't reference Kinsey's studies because his methodologies were flawed. All I'm asking is that - aside from the politics of it - you provide legitimate and accepted scientific facts that prove it's a disorder.

Absolutely. I was saddened to learn the Pentagon still classifies it as a mental disorder. Sad to know when countries like Canada, the UK, and even South Africa are granting equal rights to homosexuals that the good ol' US of A is so far behind.

I guess I'm really dumb cause I don't have a clue what the DSMII is but I do know that homosexuality is not normal and to teach our children that it is normal is a sin within itself!
I guess homosexuality is one way of ending the world. If men keep having sex with men and women with women, No more children will be born and the spread of AIDS will overcome us!

Let me ask you a question, why do you care? Because you belive it's a sin? There are many "sins" and I don't see fundementalists getting worked up about those. I've never seen fundamentalists protesting a rapist. Well last time I checked molesting children was a sin so why don't you condem your own priests?
