Judo is not stupid. You probably had a bad experience with those fighters b/c you had a bad experience, that's all. Judo has a freeform approach, where they give you a variety of throws, chokes, pins, and joint locks to work on, and you decide which you are comfortable with most and use it in competition. And b/c you compete ALOT in judo, ppl hone their skills pretty well. American judo is another thing though, since it is number two worst in the world (India is the worst according to Olympic statistics). If you were good a judo, believe me, you can hold your own. Fedor, Yoshida, and Patel are all good examples of old, retired judoka who kick butt in mixed martial arts competitions. Fedor is amazing too. BTW, brazilian jj and sambo are both direct offshoots of judo, and the techniques are the same. BJJ is just more stance driven that how judo is taught (discussed above) b/c it is basically judo geared for people who are smaller and weaker, and sambo is the exact same thing as judo (but called sambo for cold war political reasons) only sambo does not allow chokes. Judo is an amazing sport, but it is awful in America and I doubt you'll see any good judoka where you come from in your lifetime, unless you live in Russa or Japan.

I did five years of Judo and I must say that I would prefer to use jujitsu as a real situation defence. Women just don't have the muscle but if you know the striking points to disable an attacker, then you don't need as much power to throw someone over your shoulder. I don't think people that do Judo are stupid, it is a very quiet martial art even the Kata is liken to ballet. Not for street protection, very good for mind discipline.

Martial arts ans sport are 2 totally different concept. They by no means are equal. The 2 look different and are practiced different. Unfortunately many today do not know the difference. Many are being taught a sport and never learn the art. Therefore people with no knowledge of the arts see a weak version of a true art and gauge everyone according to their knowledge of martial arts and they don' have any knowledge. I love how pugspaw, sensei scandal, stillcrazy put it. I have nothing against those that play games. That is great for them. However, I am interested in having the knowledge and ability of self defense. I'm interested in budo. I do not even want to use the term martial with sport. The 2 does not go together. One is a game. The other is war. There is nothing better than when attacked knowing how to position yourself in a manner that the attacker can't do anything, but is exposed to everything that will stop the threat immediately. When I was a child I played tag. I don't play that childish game anymore. We used to trade punches in grade school. I don't trade punches anymore. If I hit you I mean to stop you. I do not look for a referee to say you tapped out. I'll know you are out when the lights go out and you go limp. I'll know that you surrender when I hear or feel the joint snap. I'll know you can't use that limb right now to attempt to harm me or my family.

I don't know anyone that does judo but your generalising and I think there should be nothing wrong with them. In self defence a good deal of street fights end up on the floor and holds are the safest way to fight if attacked by a stranger on the street as opposed to karate. However outside of judo it is probably a good idea to pick up another discipline to get a good blend of strikes to supplement your hold techniques.

Judo isn't stupid.. it's great. But it is only one TINY FACET of a fighting program. Judo gets you the takedown via throw. You also need to know how to strike (Muay Thai Boxing).. how to grapple (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu).. and how to shoot for takedowns (Collegate Wrestling). So as you can see, most martial arts do not cover all aspects of fighting and if they do they do not usually cover them all as thoroughly as becoming well rounded and learning many forms of fighitng.

No they are not stupid.
But judo is a codified system of sparring in the gym (codified by Dr. Jigoro Kano in the 1870's or 1880's).. Many dangerous moves were dropped in order to lower the rate of sparring injuries.
For street defense, jiu jitsu is much more effective and a lot more dangerous to an agressor.

I think every kind of martial art have their greatest that other can not be compete with. so judo is one of greatest grabbing in martial art, so what make it stupid. even though that you don't know to strike, but i don't think anyone that falls into a concrete ground can stand up fast without injury.

The part of Judo that's great for self defense is balance & joint locks. Now granted, JJ has the same stuff, but there's a difference in approach.

They r not stupid, perhaps only the styles do look, i wont say stupid, but, okay.. a little stupid maybe, but hey, they r deadly. Also, every fight is ugly so if beauty is the issue, then go and practice ballet instead. The only people who r stoopid r the ones who do nothing but create troubles on the streets, they should learn ballet.
