Is your friend from Nigeria or Niger? The term "Nigerien" refers to inhabitants of the nation Niger. Much more difficult to get in from Niger than Nigeria. If he is indeed Nigerian (from Nigeria) search around for Nigerian-American organizations in your area (Houston, Washington, New York, Atlanta, Chicago and Boston have substantial Nigerian communities; pick the closest to you. Other places it may be harder to find such groups but consider networking through the AME church or other Christian organizations with ties to Nigeria.) Once you have met someone who you trust and who can help you or point you to an immigration aid attorney, follow their advice.

You do not say if you are an American citizen, nor whether you have decided to marry this man. However, if those criteria are both true and you have the means to travel to his country, once he is married to you it is relatively easy to gain entry to the U.S. I must however admonish you to think carefully on this, know yourself and the man and what you both want. If you are certain you can be happy together for the rest of your lives, the price of an air ticket to Lagos or Niamey (whichever country he comes from) is but a small investment in your future happiness.

Don't expect the American government to expedite his admittance without substantial and persistent urging from you. Conditions in those countries being as bad as they are, there is a tangible reason for many inhabitants to flee and seek refuge in any Western country that will admit them, and unfortunately, many people have taken drastic measures to ensure they can gain admittance. Such measures have in past included deluding American women with false promises of love and devotion.

That said, you know your own heart and hopefully you will know his as well. If you are sure, love indeed will conquer all. Good luck to you.

Unless the love of your life has significant financial and family ties to Nigeria, it is unlikely he will be approved for a non immigrant visa. And unless you have significant financial and political ties in the US, it is unlikely you will ever hear back from an ambassador. It would be far easier for you to move to Nigeria.

Write your Congressman/woman and both your state Senators.

They can pull strings with Immigration on visas (one of my best friends brought his fiancee from Brazil this way)

Make sure you give some compelling reasons for his entrance (special skills, your interest in helping him settle, etc.)

Good luck!

Go over and Marry him and bring him back as your husband that is what I am going to do with my girlfriend. Well then again my mom was Nigeria's first woman ambassador so that will come in handy. Again go over and marry him.

Try http://www.nigeriahouse.com/ or http://www.nigeria-consulate-atl.org/. That is what I found on the internet. If you do not live in NY or Atlanta, they can direct you to the right people.
