I'm planning a trip to Italy and am thinking about trying priceline.com for the hotel rooms but am a little unsure about it. If anyone has any advice or stories(good or bad) about using it please share. I don't want to be ripped off or stuck in a horrible hotel room. Thanks!

I have, and I highly recommend browsing http://www.biddingfortravel.com . It lists all the hotels in each zone, what their star ratings are, some reviews, and people list accepted bids so you can bid the lowest possible amount. Indispensible.

I haven't used it personally, but had a friend use it. They put in all the things they wanted, location, stars, price, etc. then put their payment info in. Waited for the results and got one, so they were excited. When they actually looked up the hotel, it was completely different than what they wanted. Lower stars, bad location, etc. When they called the hotel to get some information, they found out it would have been less expensive to book with the hotel.

Anyway, they decided to stick with it and just give it a try. They arrived at the hotel, absolutely hated it, left and booked another hotel that they originally were wanting. They couldn't get a refund or anything like that.

It is great if you don't mind where you are staying. But it happens quite often where people put in what they want and the result that is booked isn't anything like it. Just be very careful when using it because Priceline doesn't do anything if you claim that wasn't what you are looking for.

Try travelfunjet.com or twototravel.com. Travel Agency's such as us have several other hotel suppliers that they work with. Contact a friendly travel agency such as ours and they like us should be happy to book the hotels for you.

Yeah, I think you have to be REALLY flexible to get the BEST DEAL, though.
