If the kittens are younger than 8 weeks, you will just have to wait until they get older. After 8 weeks is when the litter training "kicks in". Every cat is different, so give them a little while.
Try putting a few boxes out for them, in different rooms. That way one is close by when they have to "go"

cats should naturally use place thay can cover there pee and poop though many have a preference for a certain type of litter. try using various litter pans with different types of litter (clay cat litter, shreaded paper, sand, pine bedding, etc) another problem may be the age that the kittens left the mother. Kittens usually learn to use the litter box by watching their mothers. teaching a kitten that was taken away from the mother to soon is like teaching a dog to go out side. (close supervision required) Placing the kitten in a litter box after eating, confinement when not being supervised are some good suggestions. proper cleaning of mistakes to eliminate the odor. contact a veterinarian for a Check up and referal to a good Animal Behavior specialist.

This is called "litter training". Put the errant "poops" in the box so they know where they are. Everytime you see them start to "go" elsewhere, pick them up and put them in the box immediately. Also try putting them in the box 15 minutes or so after a feeding.
Mine tend to like getting into the box IMMEDIATELY after it's been scooped out, so you could try that, too.
It's a process. Some require NO training, some do. They'll get it fairly quickly too. You might want to get some puppy pee-pads and put down in the places they normally go, and it'll at least save the carpet. Good thing is, kitten "stuff" isn't as noxious as adult, and fairly easy to clean up.
Good luck. Be patient!

Crate train them. Put them in a cage with a litter box when you cant supervise them and they learn to use the litter box quick. With pups the same but you have to constantly refill knocked over water and food if not secured. look up crate training on a search engine. You may need more than one litter box, some cats dont like to share.

Take them to a vet. Most cats will only pee/poop somewhere they can cover it up (IE the litter box) unless they have some kind of problem.

I would definately take your cats to the vet- Pooping and Peeing all Over could be a sign of parasites, or something else. They need to go to the vet for their first set of shots anyway, so you might as well do it now.
Also, parasites can kill if you don't catch it in time.

They may have been taken from their mother too soon. Usually kittens 6-8 weeks old already know to use the litterbox and only the litterbox.
Take them to the vet to make sure there's no physical problem with them.
