I'm a Catholic Christian and my faith sees nothing wrong with alcohol when used in moderation. Now getting trashed every day is a different story.

You have some good answers so far. Over indulgence is wrong (Proverbs 20:1). I also think it's important to see the type of wine Jesus drank. It was diluted at least 1 part wine to 3 parts water, sometimes 1 to 8. Anything not diluted was called strong drink.
It's interesting to note that Timothy must not have drank wine, even diluted. Paul had to encourage him, "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses" (1 Timothy 5:23).
Norman Geisler has a good report on this (see "sources", go to articles then "To drink or not to drink").
Personally, I think it's a better witness as a Christian to refrain from alcohol because observers or passers-by don't know how much you have consumed and may justify their drinking after seeing you (falling into a Romans 14 issue).

Only some Christians believe that drinking alcohol is bad, while others do not. Catholics believe that consuming alcohol to excess is wrong, so social drinking is not wrong, nor is it a sin. If it was a sin then Jesus committed a sin when he drank wine at the last supper and we all KNOW that Jesus did not sin...

I know some Christians who never drink. I am a Christian who has a pina colada once in a blue moon if I go out to dinner. I don't think either is a problem. However, the bible says, as you rightly stated, not to get drunk. It also says not to "stumble" another. If you went out to dinner and saw your pastor sitting there with a beer, would that be a problem for you? Maybe not. But perhaps there is another person who is struggling with alcohol and sees that. That could be a problem for that person.
To answer your question, no I don't think having an alcoholic drink once in awhile is a sin....that being said, I think we need to consider not only our own feelings, but how our behavior may affect a brother or sister in Christ.

I think this question cannot be totally answered here. You need to do your research. A person can only give you their opinion on this subject. This reference has been disputed for many years over the fact of whether or not Jesus drank fermented or unfermented wine. The many dialects of the original Bible have words that can hold multiple meanings, and so this is where people develop theories and questions about its doctrine. I personally can only tell you that after I researched enough to come to a conclusion, I believe Jesus drank unfermented wine making it non-alcoholic.
-in this particular case many dispute the meaning of the word "yayin." It is only a matter of opinion and is very hard to prove either way

At the time Noah was asked to be the savior of humanity he owned a vineyard and was one found drunk and naked by his son. Yet God thought he was the best human alive. So God clearly has no problem with drinking even to the point of being drunk and naked. Aversion to drink is just a human thing added to control churchgoers.
Update: I read somewhere on here that some Baptists claim that wine is just fruit juice. This seems unlikely since Noah was described drinking wine, making wine and getting drunk. It seems unlikely that the word wine was used instead of fruit juice in some parts of the Bible but not others. People just love to twist the Bible to make it mean what they want it to.

My Baptist brother claims Jesus drank an upright wine. I believe that would be the equivalent to fruit juice.
No refrigeration, fruit juices ferments, thus becoming wine. I believe anything is excess would be considered gluttony and I think according to Christian teachings that would be a sin.
Personally, I am going to have a glass of wine and think about this.

I think a lot of the worlds perception of chirstians is incorrect, and I also think a lot of christians perceptions of the bible are incorrect. I believe that a lot of so-called christians get hung up on silly little man-made traditions. Ideals with no biblical basis. Abusing the body we were given is wrong, sure, but does God ever say not to drink? I think that these ideals were created by people to make themselves feel better. Like they say "I go to church in nice clothes, I dont drink, I dont swear..." And they miss the big picture. They focus on the little things they aren't doing, like drinking, to make themselves feel better about their true sins. I think we need to strip our beliefs down to pure and simple biblical truths, not things that have been added to our "religion" over the centuries. Drinking is not a sin, excess is. Over-eating is just as disgusting as over-drinking, but will that big fat minister at the pulpit ever admit it? Nope. We are people, we are imperfect. We try to make ourselves feel better about it, instead we just create lies and misconceptions about our Lord. Its sad.

Drinking an adult beverage responsibly isn't a sin, abusing it is. As for myself, as a Baptist if some one were to see my downing a Bud on Saturday then try to get them to go to church they are going to call me a hypocrite. So I don't touch the stuff because I don't want to be a "stumbling block" to some one.

Who said Christians believe alcohol is bad? There are some groups, such as the Mormons, but they are not representative of most Christians.
