Yes I am. I think it is because you can't see what is around you

Well, First of all, I think we aren't exactly afraid of the dark, Our subconscious, tricks us with that, but it might only be the reflect of our inner selves, Our eyes are our main tool . When we are in the dark, we can't see beyond our hand (maybe even more) But still we can't see much, our ""minds"" are our main tool to "see" literally speaking.
I used to play images in my head of things that scare me.. Objects that don't even exist, In the dark we are not distracted by colors and objects just the dark, In my case I used to think of people watching me all the time when I was in my room.
I believe that the brain is very powerful and we can control it if we wanted to.

I am not really but I would be afraid to be lost in the dark.

I wouldnt say Im "Afraid" of the dark, just whats "IN" the dark.

Yes, I'm 27 and being in the dark still gives me the creeps. I think it's fear of the unknown really.

yes, sometimes, if I watch horror films or something or read Stephen King's book late in the evening then I am afraid and have nightmares too.

A little. I think it's a product of seeing certain parts of scary movies as a kid, ghost stories from my youth, and not really knowing if ghosts exist (and not wanting to know!)

yes. When I was little my mom would lock me in a closet for about 24 hrs at a time and then finally let me out beat me then throw me back in.
