Aleve is also known as Naproxen, and is known to produce problems in your stomach and digestive track. The FDA issued a press release regarding a five year study of Naproxen. The studies showed that naproxen elevated the risk of heart attack and stroke by 50%. The FDA also advised that patients should take naproxen for no longer than ten days unless a physician directs otherwise.
I hope this helps! Good luck.

NSAIDS HAVE A VERY LOW OCCURRENCE OF ADDICTION.THE LARGER PROBLEM IS UNTREATED PAIN. Always take with a little food or on a full stomach to avoid many of the adverse reactions listed above. And take according to the directions ..1 every 12 hours and not more.Do not take with antacids as that will interfere with the absoption of the medication.DO NOT MASSAGE ACHING LEGS, NURSES WON'T WHY SHOULD YOU?There is always a risk of dislodging a blood clot as the legs are an area common for poor circulation, this could result in a pulmonary embolism which is life threatening.Maybe harmless 999 times out of 1000 or whatever but not a good dice throw game.Go to your dr is always the best advice ,but the reality is that maybe the majority don't have good healthcare and some none.I have to add this just in case, for leg cramps Tonic Water with quinine in it, ( quinine alone is a prescription med now,) works great if you drink about a liter over ice. (Gin might make it less effective)As often as needed you'll know, because the cramps will return, once a wk. or month or two.Tylenol for arthritis pain, time released is also good and will give him a break from continual use of alieve.Hope this helps your hard working Dad.

I'm giving the information that I think would be usefull for you but firstly I recommend you to take you dad to the doctor because any pain should represent something behind it, and we should actually cure the main cause so the pain will not show again.
While using Aleve, maybe your dad experiencing sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, so he would need sunscreen everyday. He also should avoid alcohol because alcohol use during taking this medicine can cause serious stomach bleeding. You can recognize this by stomach pain, bloody vomit, and bloody/tarry stools.
Long-term use can also cause this serious problem, so if your dad experiencing the symptoms please consult the doctor immediately.

Aleve long term can cause gastric complications. It is always a good recommendation to take an antacid (either as a tablet or as a syrup) if you are going to take more than two tablets of NSAIDs/ day. There is also a risk of dependence with any NSAIDs.

Hi there..anything in excess is bad....i support the fact that its bad for the digestive tract and cause ulcers..but we have to figure some way out to help your dad? what kind of work does he do? does he have to stand for long hours?? see there are a few options..try massage after work...the best natural caring you can provide your family member with....try changing the medicine. buy some other pain killer if he really cant bear the pain. if he stands for long...may be its just varicose veins...

recent studies about NSAID (non-steroids) such as Aleve indicate possible long term effects for patients with heart problems. As with anything -- too much is bad. Water is necessary for a healthy body, but too much will kill you.
