My 2 year old Yorkie has bad breath all the time. I think it is just a Yorkie thing. I put breath stuff in his water, you can get it at walmart and at petsmart. It is around 3.00 at walmart and around 6.00 at petsmart. It really helps. Good Luck!

Often when they start losing the baby teeth...around 4-6 months, the mouth smells AWFUL!!! It is the blood that stis in the mouth after the tooth comes out!!!! Kittens can have it really bad too!!!!! Wait a month or 2 and see if it doesn't get better. Once all the molares are out, it smalls a lot better!!!!!!!!!!

It might not be his teeth. I would say that it's natural for older dogs to have bad breath, except yours is only six months old. I would go to another vet to get a second opinion, since it might be inner organ problems, and not his teeth. It's hard to get a good vet, but I would definitely get one better than the one you have right now.

Science Diet is not a good quality kibble, you should find something better to feed him.
As for the bad breath--could be anything from bad breath to reflux. Does he eat good? Not vomitt? Look at more than his teeth, it could even be a sinus or ear infection (they're all connected hence ear/throat/nose doctors).
Otherwise, I recently purchased a pet-breath mint called Yip-Yap. I thought they worked really well for my dog. You could get your dog a bone too--a lot of them help with bad breath too. Don't get Greenie's though--25% of the filler of those bones are NOT digestable and you'll end up in emergency surgery for a blocked intestine.
Good luck!

Get a good quality rope toy...the ones that appear to be twisted string tied in a knot. Soak it in unsalted broth. Dry it in a very slow oven. she will try to chew all the falovor out of that, and it works as dental floss to keep her teeth clean, and her breath fresh.
If she grows tired, (couple of months)as the flavor is gone, just wash by hand, and re-soak.

Wow...normally bad breath is an indicator of poor tooth health and gum problems. If the vet says all of that is ok...I'd experiment with different biscuits. Some are made for bad breath.

Below is a link on how to care for your dog's teeth.
