P.s. is this a stitch, maybe due to eating not long before running?

You may be having a stitch. Stitches are sharp pains like cramps that occur during exercise (particularly running), usually near the ribs, usually in the same spot, and sometimes they can get so bad that a runner has to stop and wait it out. There is not a good explanation for why they occur, and there is not a very good cure either. Some people believe it has to do with a small area of ischemia, where blood and oxygen get cut off to a small area of muscle, which leads to a spasm or cramp. Things you can do when they occur is massage the area, stretch, slow down the exercise, take deep breaths into your belly, or stop exercising. You'll have to experiment and see what works best. You may also want to start with a slow warm-up run for four to five minutes, followed by a stretch of the upper body, and then go on and start playing, and try not to increase the speed too quickly. They are not dangerous, just painful, so you can continue to run if you like and try some of the above interventions when they occur.

If this doesn't sound like the problem, then you ought to speak with your doctor.

Could be or you could be walking too fast too quickly. I start out on a 3.6 and move up to a 4.0 after a few minutes. I stretch before I get on and walk but I have found that I don't get the muscle aches if I walk at a slower pace first then move up the speed for the rest of my walk. I stay 40 minutes at a 4.0 then back down to a 3.2 for 5 or 10 minutes to cool down before moving to the weights.

You have air stuck inside your system. Try doing some simple side to side stretches while sitting on the floor with legs spread apart. Touch the sides of floor along with a stop in front where your legs should be if thew were not outstretched. You may have also drunk too much water beforehand. Try taking smaller sips throughout your workout. Good luck and happy workout.

I was going to say you might be running too quickly after you eat, and then you hinted at that. That's definitely very possible and that's where you'd probably feel the cramp. I try to wait at least two hours after I've eaten before I run. Make sure to drink water while you run too.

You could have a fractured rib or have bruised your rib, try to not eat until after your workout and test for yourself to eliminate the possibilities.

it could just be that you are not used to running, or that you are not breathing properly. Also, drink lots of water. And don't push yourself too hard. If you feel like you can't keep going, don't force it. Just work up to it over time.

I think it is a stitch. You probably are just a) not used to running (i dont know your situtation) or b) you are pushing yourself too hard. my suggestion would be to do interval training (power walk, run, power walk, run). here are some sites with info:

Breathe through your nose and out your mouth, it is because you are out of shape. After a minute your side should stop hurting.
