We CAN avoid extinction. It's not the same as saying that we WILL avoid annihilation. The biggest danger truly is NOT doing anything. Being a fellow lover of humanity, (no sarcasm meant) I can't ignore the fact that there are religious zealot organizations who would rather eradicate all human life on this planet, rather than allow to exist anybody with a creed different from their own. At this moment, those same people are busy attempting to aquire the technology to do this. If they succeed, there's no doubt that they will use these weapons, even if it ends every speck of life on our entire planet.

I sincerely doubt it. We are in such a hurry to blow ourselves up. The eviorment is a disater.
It's our legacy as Humans to leave this behind and be forgotten about. I think Humans are a branch of animal that went wrong somewhere in evolution.

Doubt it... Wars have been fought some time began, and each related war has resulted in more casualties than the last.
e.g.
WW2 resulted in more deaths the WW1.
Gulf War 2 resulted in more deaths than Gulf War 1.

Can we aspire as a species and individuals to avoid it? Can we stop waving stupid flags and literalizing our mythologies and dying and killing for idols and totems. Can the US stop being greedy? If you were in the third world would you be radicalized? I would. Will bombing them and stealing from them "win their hearts and minds" will it make them more or less peaceful, more or less prone to terrorism?
A fraction of Europeans support American foreign policy, and they have much more in common with the US, can you imagine Iraq, Iran, or North Korea?

I don't think so. Humans are a destructive species, be it to each other or the planet. I hate to sound pessimistic, but world peace seems to be a pipe dream. Looks good on paper, but may be unrealistic due to our destructive nature.

I believe they can avoid WW3 but that doesn't mean they will not bleed themselves to death on petty wars or have some group or nation unleash a biological pandemic.

I don't think so. We might be able to, but the effort is just too high for most of us.. Unfortunately.
