You're going to absolutely love living in New York City! Besides all the usual comments that you'll hear about all the activities & fun etc., it is a wonderfully liberating place to live & grow. The diversity & cultural richness. . .and the fact that most people that you'll "run into" are generally friendly, helpful & rather "interesting". It's a city where people accept each other & you have very little of the social pettiness that you may find in other areas. Give up your car if you have one. . .you won't need it & all the expenses of having a car. Get very comfortable shoes. New Yorkers walk everywhere. Enjoy & welcome to "The Big Apple".

Stay away from tourist traps, and research the real estate market very carefully before you choose a place. Know the neighborhood you're moving into before you jump into it. I know too many non-New Yorkers who moved into bad neighborhoods they didn't realize were bad because they'd never been there.
And make sure you have a high-paying job!!!!

It depends what type of lifestyle you are used to: urban, surburan, or rural?
It also depends on what your expectations are as to why you are moving to NYC.
