I'd leave. If it got to the point where it was in NC then it would have most likely mutated into an airborne illness. I'd go to the VI and stay with family.

Well, seeing as how I'm not a bird, I'm not worried.
Just joking. Avian flu, not to be confused with the water, is a serious disease. Also called the bird flu.
Protect yourself by living scrupulously clean.

Protect my pet parakeet by not letting him "hang out" in his cage on my front porch. Spoil him rotten with lots of birdie treats and hope he doesn't catch it - but also washing my hands frequently.
Currently, avian flu can only be caught from bird -bird and bird to man. There are no known cases of person to person. So if you limit your exposure to birds and wash your hands frequently, the risk is low - unless you are a poultry farmer. The financial impact on them could be difficult - but I'm a vegetarian so too bad about that.

In my country this has been a reality for about a months or so.But if you ask me it was too much ado about nothing.I ate so called"infested" chicken meat and I am healthier than ever.On the other hand, chicken meat sales went down and tourism as well.So do you still think this was not a manufactured issue? As of those who actually died because of this-I think it t was another condition that lead to their death.
