Mormons are Christians, first of all. According to the teachings of the church, we must follow Christ and accept Him as our Savior. They pray in the name of Christ, and perform all church ordinances in the name of Christ. They sing hymns about Christ. Christ is considered to be the Head of the church. Yes, they believe Christ also visited the American continent after His death. Yes, they believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that God the Father and Jesus Christ are two separate beings, yet one in purpose. And they believe that God continues to reveal His word to man through living prophets. But how do these doctrines make them non-Christian?

Mormons study from the Bible just as much as they do from the Book of Mormon. In fact, the curriculum for Sunday School lessons this year is the Old Testament.

If the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints only pretended that they believed in Christ, then why would people stay in the church after getting baptized? Why would the church keep growing at such a tremendous rate if its members only pretended to believe in Christ in order to attract more converts? More than two-thirds of its baptisms every year are convert baptisms. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the fastest growing religion of North and South America. Joseph Smith, at a time when the church only had six members, prophesied that the church would fill North and South America, and eventually the whole world. Brigham Young prophesied that the earth would be dotted with hundreds of temples, at a time when they were just beginning to be built. We are seeing these prophesies fulfilled before our own eyes.

So many people have been deceived by a pack of liars, who say the Mormons aren't Christian, and consider the Mormon religion to be one of the most evil on the planet. Christ said "Ye shall know them by their fruits."

As I think you know Ethan, Mormons are indeed Christian.

The response to the question "Is Mormonism Christian?" depends on the substance of the question and its context. If the inquiry is more theological and religious than theoretical and academic, then the question and answer are normative and depend upon the presuppositions that underlie the query. However, the question can be examined by asking about the significance and implications of labeling and naming in the world of religion. While much modern Latter-day Saint literature has emphasized elements in common between the LDS Church and other Christian denominations, the frequent use of "Mormon" among the early Saints shows that the unique doctrines and beliefs of the Saints—such as the Book of Mormon, the gathering, and the leadership of the prophet—enabled the Saints to withstand the centrifugal pull of Protestant hegemony and establish their own identity. Likewise, the Saints referred to everyone outside of their religion as "Gentile," a practice that continued into this century. Now, with their identity firmly established, the Saints no longer feel constrained to be segregated from other denominations. At the same time, however, new conservative Christians have adopted the label "Christian" to unite themselves and to exclude outsiders or those who may differ in their doctrinal beliefs. The need to show this divergence has grown with the increased prominence of the Church and its members and with the realization that conservative Christians share with the Saints a common social and political agenda.

many cults talk about Christ when in fact they are not Christian. Anyone can talk about Christ and say they are Christian, when in fact they are not. Here some quotes from the Mormon churches own publications:

What does the Mormon Church think of Christianity? Brigham Young stated the following: “We talk about Christianity, but it is a perfect pack of nonsense...it is corrupt as hell; and the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century” (JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, volume 6, p. 167).

In May of 1977, THE ENSIGN, an official Mormon Church publication, on page 26, carried an article asking, “Are the Mormons Christian?” Part of that article read, “It is true that many of the Christian churches worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshiped by the Mormons or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

Simply having the word "Christ" in one's religious language does not in and of itself cause a religious community to belong to the family of denominations known as Christian. After all, the Quran talks about Jesus a great deal; his name is probably mentioned more often than Mohammed's is. That does not mean Muslims are Christians.

There are certain basic beliefs that most Christian communities have in common, despite many differences they get quite passionate about. They all tend to believe in the existence of Jesus, his divinity, his unity with the Father, and that baptism should be given according to the trinitarian formula. A fairly good argument can be made that those communities that fall within that loose aggregation of doctrines are the communities one can call Christian, and those that fall outside of its boundaries are probably those that likely cannot.

Mormons, while an admirable group of people who live well-ordered lives and who are devoted to their families, do embrace a belief structure that has evolved its way outside the norms one would associate with Christianity.

Belief that Jesus is a separate being from God, that God was once a man from planet Kolob, that baptism can and should be done for the dead - these are things that are certainly alien to most peoples' understandings of what basic Christianity is.

I think Mormons themselves should embrace their difference. If they feel convicted about these new and certainly radically different doctrines, then they should embrace that change fully, and admit to themselves and others that what they really have is something new and something pretty much different from what just about anyone else would call Christianity.

TJ57, Mormons do accept Jesus' deity and that he was the only begotten son of God and was bodily resurrected. Wherever are you getting all this misinformation? And you know as well as I do that Rev. 22:18&19 refer only to the book of Revelation, not the Bible as a whole, which hadn't been finished at this point!

And who said Baptism for the Dead wasn't a Christian practice? It was practiced in the early church - see 1 Corinthians 15:29.

Of course Mormons are Christian. Brigham Young said that other Christians worship a "different Jesus". He's right. Other Christians worship a strange Jesus who is in some was of the same substance as God the Father and thus talks to himself when he prays (the doctrine of the Trinity was concocted in 385 AD) and a Jesus who is satisfied just to be believed in, not followed (John 14:15).

Mormons believe in and worship and live for and preach the Jesus of the Bible, God's son who died for us. Anyone who imagines they are not Christians knows nothing about what it means to be Christian.

It's just a way to attract more people into their church. If you have a chance to speak to a Mormon they will talk to you about 2 things: Joseph Smith, and the book of Mormon. Plus, they have distortioned point view about Jesus Christ.

If Mormons are not Christians, then why is it that the name of their church is called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints?

I guess that means that they are.

And one more thing (to all those who say stupid things about the Mormons): why are all these questions about mormons and being christian floating around so much? What's that about? If you guys are truly Christians, then why all the hatred? Why so hateful to other religious sects? I don't get all these bashing against the LDS Church. They are good people. If you don't like their beliefs, nobody is forcing you to accept them - just don't be hateful towards them.

I don't know that much about Mormons but I
will say that they do not accept Jesus Deity
they do not accept Jesus as Gods Only Begotten Son and they don't accept Jesus BODILY RESURRECTION from the grave after
three days and three nights.
They say Jesus was a person in history just
like me or you,a prophet just like Smith said he was. The religion is as phony as a three dollar bill. They know that Jesus was a wonderful man
and use Jesus name and the promise of a super great family they tell you what you want to hear. They are one of the many Antichrist.
There is but ONE BIBLE and if anything is added to or taken away the ones doing it is cursed.
Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
This was the last Words that God spoke!
In Christ in Love,

Because as it is written in the Book of Mormon that we talk of Christ, we Believe in Christ, We rejoice in Christ and it is to Christ that we turn the we and our families may be saved. A lot of people don't want to believe that we believe in Christ, yet Christ is the Central Figure of our religion, We believe and teach out of the Bible. we also teach and learn from the Book of Mormon, which you you read the title of the Book it reads, " The Book of Mormon, another Testament of Jesus Christ" Meaning that in addition to the Bible it stands as another witness that Christ lives and that He is our Savior.
