I don't understand what you are asking. Are you asking if you should cut up the blanket? Try bringing it to a fabric store and asking if someone can match the texture of the fabric. The larger the store, the better, unless a small one can order it for you. Once you get the fabric, sleep with it and cover with it for a few weeks, to impart your smell into it. From there, make the bed out of that.
But, I can tell you from experience that typically when you do anything for a cat, he won't want it, so it may be your best bet to simply let them stay-put as is.

My 13 year old cat does this. He used to do it on a blanket I didn't want messed up, so I simply switched it for another blanket that was soft, too. He didn't seem to care, as long as he had a blanket at all. Go to the fabric store and look around for something soft, buy a yard or two of it, just bind the edges so it doesn't fray, you don't have to make it into a bed or anything. The fabric doesn't have to be identical to your grandpa's blanket, either.

I would take the blanket to a fabric store and ask them. They usually have personel that have been sewing for years and could probably give you a good idea of what the blanket is made out of. Then I would try to get the fabric in the same or close to the same color and make your kitties their own blanket!

i got my cat when she ws 5 weeks old and she used to snuggle up under my hair and then suck on my neck. it was really weird. i think she did it because she thought i was her mother and still wanted to nurse. my cat is grown now and she is in love with fleece blankets. she will cuddle up inside of it and then suck on the blanket and purr. i honestly don't know why she does it. it's probly like others said, to relax. all you have to do is buy one of those $10 fleece blankets at almost any store and that will work. i went through tons of those blankets just because my cat sheds so much that i need to keep getting her a new one

I don't get what you mean by the nursing but I guess it's OKAY if your cat does that. I guess it's really comfortable for them. And you can just probably get a sleeping bag for them and it'll feel comfortable or an old blanket. Or maybe memory foam. My kitten loves it.

My cat used to do the same thing to a fluffy pair of slippers I have.
I believe it to be soothing almost therapeutic for them... it reminds them of there mommy & there is a great sense of comfort for them in that.
Just like the infant that no longer is nursing can be comforted & soothed by a pacifier.
On a funny note...My other cat was adopted as a kitten by my Pitt Bull, he used my Dogs cheeks to suckle on & would purr himself to sleep that way.... He is now grown & still uses that to fall asleep from time to time.
I guess its all a matter of what is a tactile familiar for each cat :)

i wouldn't cut it up, but allow them access to it, as for the nursing i guess it is just relaxing to them.
