Yeah and I spent like crazy. Stuff I needed, though!!
I read a book called "How to Hide Money from Your Husband" and although I was single at the time, it (weirdly enough) taught me how to save for a rainy day!! You have have have to pay yourself first (well, second after you pay tithes , 10% of your income) and invest in yourself, no matter how low or challenged your income. One day, you'll have SOMETHING to spend for yourself if you are diligent. You can set up automatic payments into your checking account or you can put money in an envelope and then freeze it in a ziploc bag inside of a second ziploc bag and papertowel filled with water. When you want to spend your money, you'd have to think long and hard while 1. You found your passbook for your savings account 2. let the ice thaw. Hey, it worked for me. Just be sure to take care of you and not just the big corporations who receive our drop in the bucket payments monthly like clockwork.

Yes it is and I know what you mean about the bills. But, let us not forget that to be able to pay the bills is a blessing in and of itself. Imagine if you had the bills and no money to pay them.
