Curse words allow for a way to show anger without causing any real damage. As our society has changed and become more rebellious these words which seemed to be rarely used became more acceptable to some. Swears seem to have been created as a way to vent frustration.

The origin of swear words in the English Language comes from the Saxon language in Britain. When the Normans invaded England they outlawed many of the traditions, laws and titles. The Saxon language in particular was deemed inferior to the Norman language (archaic french/ latin roots), so to speak "saxon" soon became unpopular. Many of our cuss words were actually regular words of the saxon language. For example, F***, S***. Now in regards to why we can't swear on Yahoo Answers, well...I don't know! Hope I could help!

Applechick282 what are u on about?
Swear words originated hundreds of years ago as the actual words for things in England. For example s*hit used to be the polite word for poop and originated from Anglo-Saxon or something. But then as society changed people preferred to use French sounding words so the polite name became 'faeces' and the original name became taboo.

Swear words weren't created as swear words. They were created as actual names for certain things(female dog, boy w/o a father....) and these things were looked down upon, so they became known as swear words.

People are connected. If you forbid a word and teach society it is wrong to say it, when someone says it, it affects the people around you in a shocking way and draws attention to you, which then affects your mental being at that time and makes you feel better.

swear words just are like other words. Someone says it so everyone else says it. And I am guessing its taboo cause it has a bad meaning. Like if milk was a bad thing people wouldn't go saying i am going to milk the cow. they would go i gonna yank the cow. that is my opinion

i think the concept of swear words is ridiculous.
but, on the other hand, words that are truly considered "bad words" by most people are stronger than many words that aren't. so perhaps the existence of swear words can be helpful for those who aren't afraid to use them.

Maybe they get so mad they have to offend them but not physically.
Besides, there's less evidence in swearing than actually beating up someone.
