What do you think about that?

Immigrants who become U.S. citizens typically pay more in taxes than do native-born Americans. Drawing upon data from the U.S. Census Bureau Current Population Survey, the CRS recently found that families with an adult, foreign-born, naturalized citizen actually have higher adjusted gross incomes-averaging $40,502-than families with U.S.-born citizens only ($35,249). The immigrants' taxable income average $32,585, compared with $27,076 for families with all native-born members. The federal taxes paid by families with naturalized citizen average $6,580 per year, compared with $5,070 for U.S. born-only families.

By conservative estimates, in 1997 immigrant households paid an estimated $133 billion in direct taxes to federal, state, and local governments.

I asked only because of the fuss about proposed "amnesty". We only have a limited number of options. Shipping everyone home would cost money. Letting them pay taxes would be good for everybody. I think this is the first time I have agreed with the President!

Joseph...not at all! Just a little info to hopefully enlighten Americans who think immigrants come here to "sponge". There is no free lunch in the US! So almost all the illegals here just want to make a go of it. Since we don't seem able to control the border, I say make it easier for them to pay taxes! It makes me a little mad (I worked really hard to get my legal status here), but since the system is obviously broke, I'm for whatever plan brings us the most money!

That is because they tend to be the ones who came here legally under an immigration system slanted intentionally to get skilled workers. Middle class immigrants are a net benefit economically. Those are the ones who become citizens, typically.

On the other hand, since middle class and wealthier people subsidize services such as education, health care and welfare for the poor, poor immigrants are a net economic drain even where they pay all taxes. That is why their numbers are limited and is why the wait to get here is long.

You gave no source of course. I don't have the ones I need available.

But it's good to hear that the article I read yesterday how there won't be enough people in California - legal or not, to pay for the services they get.

It's good to know that it's a lie that many city, county, and state budgets are bursting because they can't afford to take care of them.

It's good to know the number of hospitals that went bankrupt because of guaranteeing anchor babies and services to them.

It's good to know that nationally, it is a lie that an illegal immigrant costs $55,000 a year in support.

It's a good thing to know that the majority of illegal immigrants are poor, unskilled workers who draws the local economy down so far in places they start calling it Mexi-whatever.

It's so good to learn that the Southern California border is not only indistinguishable from Mexico, the ELECTED LEADERS down there are as we speak plotting what to do when Congress bill finally passes into law - everything from massive disruption to outright ARMED CONFLICT.

It's good to know the 500+ bills that have been draining and lowering our high school success rate, unprotecting citizens, and allowing illegal voting and immigrants holding offical city or country positions and the teaching of hate in schools to make white kids feel bad so land can go back to Mexico - It's glad to know it's all just a bunch of crap because you read one article that interpreted that making illegal aliens legal would stop them from colonizing and fighting to not be Americans - and they'd get good paying jobs to boot, so no more unskilled workers!!

Read this one source from 2004, I have more than you care to read:

Or its all a lie, either way the govt. and the corrupt govt. employees are makeing money from all of it one way or another.

What do I think about that? Well, if it is true, then I love it. Why would I have a problem with people actually carrying their weight around here?

You said that they make more, that's why they pay more. Has nothing to do with their immigrant status...
