In terms of being registered disabled then no it is not covered so no disabled badge/mobility allowance etc. However, it might be covered under the Disability Discrimination Act as that defines a disability as any medically diagnosed condition present for at least 12 months or more. This means your employers can not discriminate against you for this condition if you have told them that you have it. So for example, if you were spending a lot of time in the toilet (which happens) then your employers could not take action against you if this was down to your IBS and you had already notified your personnel department that you had been diagnosed with it and had had it for over 12 months.

No it's not and nor should it be. Plenty of people suffer from IBS but it doesn't disable them. A genuine disability is something that is expected to last for more than 1 year and has an adverse effect on normal day to day activities. Although IBS is not completely curable, it is controllable and on the whole does not effect the day to day activities of suffers.

Probably not. You're not actually disabled - just miserable every now and then.

No it's not. Plenty of people work with this condition everyday.
It does annoy me when people try to find excuses not to work - I work with someone who has no legs. If he can work then so can you.
