I'm sure you have tried every "nice" parenting tactic concerning this situation. Put your foot down. Tell them they will stay home if they don't abide by the rules, and one of the rules is SHOES and SOCKS. Explain to them that it is for their health and safety that you have put this rule in place. You can use examples such as glass on pavement and itchy, burny athletes foot.

First you might want to have a Dr check out his feet!! Maybe there is something wrong that when he wears shoes and socks they hurt! I have a friend that only wears sandles because socks and closed in shoes hurt his toes because they are very sensitive! If nothing is wrong with his feet then maybe you need to not let him go shopping or to the malls! Missing a movie he likes. I had to do this with my son when he didn't want to wear shoes but he was 4 years old. I said well then you don't go, and he was dropped off at Grandmas while his sister and I had fun. It only took him one time to figure out he needs to drsss apropriately when we go out. I would show him signs on the restuarants that we went to that they don't allow you in without shoes on your feet.

I''m sorry. I have 3 kids and 1 on the way. 2 of my kids are teens. If they refused shoes, socks or whatever, they would loose the privilage to going anywhere public with me and anyone else. At home is fine, but feet stink , and especially w/o shoes!! Dirty feet are gross!! Just put your foot down(with shoes on) and take away privilages of going any where. If it were me....I'd make them wear them to bed if they argue too much. But I'm more headstrong than they are. Be strong.

tell them if they don't wear appropriate attire, they can' t go with you. And here's a tip, and a bit of a con...find an old crotchety neighbor, and ask them if they want to have their basement...yard...or closet cleaned for free. Then when your 10 year old doesn't listen. Tell them that he is grounded, but you are not. Send him to the neighbors for a few hours of cleaning, then go watch his favorite movie at the theatre and come home licking an ice cream cone. tell him sorry, I would have loved to take you, but you wouldn't put your shoes and socks on. This should only take one time, and they will be horrified that you would go somewhere without them! Works every time!

Tell the son that prefers to wear no shoes, "wear them". All public establishments insist on shoes.

The one that prefers no socks, get over it Ma. When he decides to no longer suffer the embarrassment of smelly feet, he will chose to wear socks.

Don't let your son go to the mall, the movies or his friend's house unless he's appropriately dressed, including shoes and socks.

This isn't about what they want. It's about what you think is best for them. Be the parent. Make the hard choices. Take away priviledges, smack a butt. Do what you have to do to be the parent.

Obviously your son lacks respect for you. It seems like you are not being the parent. I am not trying to be mean; I am guessing there may be other issues here. I would like to recommend the book "Boundaries" or "Boundaries for Kids" (both by Drs. Cloud & Townsend). Also "Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours" by Dr. Kevin Leman. They are easy to read and extremely helpful books. You really need to work on this now before your oldest is a teenager. Good luck!

Tell them what kind of disgusting things they are bringing home on their feet when they don't wear shoes. Think about it: Someone has dog poop on their shoe and they walk across a parking lot and then your kid steps where they stepped with their bare feet and then drag that onto your floor in your home. Put your foot down and make them wear shoes...be a parent.

If this is the sole problem you are having with your 10 year old son, kudos toyou!

Is this really a big deal? My 8 year old girl is the same way. So what? If it doesn't hurt him, let him go.

A good thing to keep in mind as a mom:
Choose your battles...

Wow. You need to take charge. Next time he tries to do something without shoes punish him. It's not going to change unless you take hold of the reins and show him who's boss.
