umm...she must be tired as heck, the lack of oxygen from the asthma is going to make her tired for one and the antihistamines are going to make her even more sleepy.

Asthma is an allergy and is triggered by something. The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Common triggers are smoke, dust, mold, mildew, plants, dust mites, pets and grass/weeds.
If you can not figure our your triggers, you may need to see an allergist and have allergy screening done. This may point out your triggers.
The National Asthma Prevention Program and the Expert Panel of Diagnosis and Management of Asthma both agree if you have to use a prescription inhaler such as albuterol more then two time per week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need a prescription controller medication.
Controller medications are steroids (Asthmacort Asthmanex, Flovent, Pulmocort), Leukotriene modifier (Singulair, Aculade, Zyflo) or mast cell stabilizers (Cromolyn sodium, Intal, Tilade).
You may want to talk to your doctor about several strong controller medications and maybe Xolair shots.
If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

She is one really tired girl. When you are that tired, nothing "sinks in" and you do not perform to your true capabilities.
I had the same problem a while back. I'm not familiar with piriton. If this is not a nasal spray, get her some plain nasal saline spray. Use it right before bed. Either way - tell her to use 2 pillows! The angle of the head/neck helps the sinus drain. Coughing not so bad and you can sleep. Good Luck!

i shouldn't think so, I am asthmatic and also have been given antihistamines but the antihistamines aren't the same.
Her coughing at night might be the way she sleeps as i used to do that as i used to lay on 4 pillows know i have 2 and am breathing OK, also it might be the sheets. She also might be coughing due to the stress of the SATs, as Stress does have an effect on asthma.
Take care and tell you daughters GOOD LUCK!!

She should not be coughing all night
Talk with Dr. about a better treatment plan.
Disrupted sleep will make her unable to concentrate as well and cranky.
Also some antihistamines trigger asthma so check with your dr.
Claritan usually does not cause drowsiness and Singular is another daily med for asthma/ allergies
But your Dr. needs to get her a treatment that works.

The most common side effect of taking Piriton is drowsiness. However, most people do not experience any side effect from taking Piriton.

If she's up all night coughing, then, IMO, the Piriton isnt' helping.
Get her back to the DR...sleep deprivation WILL reduce the brain's capacity to learn/remember/perform.

mm antihistamines are bronchiole constrictors, you should never use the two together, if you daughter is having trouble breathing the worst thing you can do is give her an antihistimine, instead look into singulair, its great for allergies but isnt an antihistamine, so it wont mess with your daughters asthma

What the others said. She's going to be exhausted from coughing and not being able to breathe- and that's pretty scary, as I know from my bouts with bronchitis.
Talk with the docs and tell them the medicine isn't helping. There are alternatives.
Good luck!
