First I have to say thanks to everyone on this website- it's been a ton of help since places like the knot and other wedding sites cater to rich couples or parents I should say. Me and my FI are paying for the whole wedding. I want a wild and fun wedding but I am having a stroke everytime I see the price of a receiption. I am going to start checking out Firehall but if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear it. I am trying to keep it $50 dollars a head and we gotta have open bar- hey we're irish and german! And I am tacky tacky tacky so if you know anywhere that still has the metallic wallpaper and 70's decor let me know!! I tried Adelphias but it was 120 per person plus tax and graduity!! Wow, they must have to charge extra to keep the neon lights in the bathroom on :)
Thanks everyone!!

Find a hall that doesn't have a liquor license. I had my wedding at the Culture Hall in Medford, it's beautiful. It's much cheaper to bring in your own booze, typically they mark up liquor 100%. Also, to really save money, only serve beer and wine and soft drinks. A buffet is usually cheaper than a sit down dinner and it's nicer. Everyone can pick what they want to eat instead of getting whatever shows up on the plate. I usually starve at sit down dinners, because they're usually something I won't eat.

Don't let the florist talk you into $50 centerpieces. Not necessary, there are lots of centerpieces that can be done for less than $10. Go to your local arts and crafts store, buy a glass bowl, fill part way with water and float some blooms in the water. Much less than a typical florist arrangement. If the bowl is shallow enough you can also put a pillar candle in it. Check out the neat centerpieces they did on Design on a Dime wedding, link below.l

Don't buy a four figure wedding gown. I have seen a $5000 gown up close and personal and I'm here to tell you, it doesn't look that much better than a $500 gown from Davids. You can't tell the difference at all in the pictures or on the video.

Don't rent limos or any other kind of transport, they're a very expensive, waste of money. I went to my wedding in my dad's pickup (it looked nice, not a beater). We left the church in my mom's car, she has a nice Cadillac.

I will say that you should spend as much as you can on a photographer. This is the only part of your wedding that is permanent. Go with the best person you can afford. I highly recommend The Photo Loft in Medford, but they are really expensive.

Don't buy really expensive invitations, no one but you and maybe your mom, will keep them. I ordered mine from one of the companies that advertises in the wedding magazines. I think it was Carlson Craft. Send away for all those catalogs and order from one that you like.

Order a small tiered wedding cake to cut, instead of a cake that will serve everyone, and have sheet cakes in the back that the caterer can serve to guests. Also, a good place to get a cake that's not too expensive is a grocery store with a good bakery.

Skip favors all together or go with something simple and inexpensive. Wrap up some Hershey kisses in tulle and your good to go.

I hope this was helpful, have a good wedding. Also, something to think about is a destination wedding, you won't have as many guests but it's alot cheaper, especially if you go to an all inclusive place.

You are just too funny! I just can't stop laughing. Keep up the good spirits and great sense of humor.

Blessings on your upcoming marriage.

Also, you can get married and have your reception on a Touristic Boat. They do weddings they are within your price range. Here is a llink, open bar is 27 dollars per person. Don't know about the food though.

Aldelphia's will bend you over and give it to you... there's Mazo's on Rte 47 in...Clayton I think. Firehalls are always cheapest though. There is also a place called Valari's...or Valario's...it's right around the corner near that WAWA that past Circuit City. It's on a lake, looks nice.

I would say have your honeymoon in Atlantic City. This way, you don't have to shell out a lot of money there. Also, why not have the reception at a casino? Wedding food stinks anyway, so as long as people are spending money, give them a good reason to spend it.
