How bad does alcohol affect you in the long run. If you drink alot in college, is it really that bad for your health, sense its just a college thing. Even though I probably will still drink moderately after college? Is it that bad?

Alcohol is NOT good in moderation, as the first answerer said. Every bit of alcohol kills brain cells. Now, I don't know about you, but I want to keep all of my brain cells as long as I can. Also binge drinking can and has killed people. Also every time you drink you stress and damage your liver. I have seen people bleed to death from a liver that was destroyed by drinking. Being drunk impairs your thinking ability leaving you vulnerable to being mugged or raped. Never get drunk with people you don't know really well as they might not be the friends you thought they were.
Smoking really does cause cancer as well as other diseases. The sad thing about cig. smoke is that you can suffer from these diseases even if you are simply around when other people who smoke. So, smokers not only put themselves at risk but also people around them. Often these are people they care about, their friends, children and other family. And of course, both alcohol and cig. are addictive and THAT can really ruin your life.

I believe it depends on your personality whether or not you will change your drinking patterns after college. I mean, it's bad to drink in excess. One night can kill you if you drink too much. I thought that I'd be the type who would "cut back after graduation" but no go, my friends and I just started meeting after work for cocktails rather than after school for beers. I started to drink so much that I couldn't stop once I started (all while high functioning at a high level job, buying a home by myself, etc...) Now, I am give years sober after realizing that my entire social life revolved around booze and none of my friends and I had nothing in common except booze. So, if you are asking this question, you have concerns and they may be valid.

Well your liver does not under stand that it is just a college thing. I don't know where you live but I live by several large colleges and universities and we are always hearing about alcohol related deaths! Kids your age do not understand when the lever of alcohol can become toxic in your blood stream. You better be careful, that is all I can say.

Well alcohol isn't bad if you don't abuse it. If you drink a bit every day it's ok. But if you are a drunk/alcoholic it's bad! it damages your liver if you drink to much.
Smoking is bad for you but sometime the way i look at it is... even people that don't smoke can get cancer and with all the pullution every one will end up with it. You might as well enjoy a cig. But that's just me.
BUT NO ALCOHOL ISN'T AS BAD AS SMOKEING

Alcohol, smoking, or even any other kind of drug are really bad for you. Don't try alcohol, your probably too young too try it and it's not good for you. it kills brain cells, lacks blood flow through the brain, and can cause your liver to fail. Here's my advice, be smart, eat healthy, and don't hang out with the wrong people that do bad habits.

alcohol does have many adverse effects and i wouldn't recommend regularly drinking any more than ONE beverage. But the true threat in alcohol is the power to confuse. You lose youre inhibitions so you're more likely to have irrepsponsible sex, or be raped (such as i have), you're more likely to be bad driver and hurt or kill someones else while driving. you're more than likely to shoot your mouth off and say things you will later regret. Esp if you don't know your limit. And as far as the rape thing goes - yes by people i KNEW so don't let your guard down DON'T DRINK TOO MUCH

if you drink too much at once, you can get alcohol poisoning and die, but that is not very likely, i would hope you have the sense to stop before that. but everytime you drink, it slowly messes up your liver; you can try looking it up online for details

in my opinion, smoking is still much worse than drinking though

It can have permanent effects on the liver, kidney's, and believe it or not nuerological functions. also, alcohol is turned into sugar in the body, thats why so many drunkjs are diabetic. don't abstain, just be moderate.

EDIT> one drink a day is a bit much, and watch out for date rape drugs!

if you become a beer slosher alcoholic in colleege thats bad. if you party ever weekend and have two or three drinks a night its not ideal but it won't put you in the hospital. just remember...at parties there ARE other drinks you can have and no one's going to kick you out for it. and your health lasts for your lifetime. so take good care of yourself.
