The best sniper rifle depends a lot on you as a person. I have a prefaces of an L96 . Hear are some stats on it

Caliber: 7.62mm
Weight: 6.5kg
Length: (adjustable) 1124-1194mm
Muzzle velocity: 838m/s
Feed: 10-round box
Effective range: 900m, harassing fire 1100m

But again it depends on what the range and the person.

Rem 700 is a good entry model, although the AI Super Mag is a top class rifle. Mbeg and Abbynorm have the right idea - spot on.

It depends what you want it for. Target, Anti-material, anti-personnel?

I can't help but laugh at some of the answers on this board, as they ppear to have come right out of a computer game gun inventory list, and that's all they know!!!!

For price, the Remington or Savage are very good....but cheaper still and you could go down the way to a WW2 Mosin Nagant (or later version) for spare change. An old Lee Enfield shoots better at long rabge than at short range...getting 1" MOA at 600 - but much less at a shorter distance.

If you really want a sniper rifle, and not just to talk about it - then this isn't the place. You need to check out places like Sniper Central etc.

It depends on what you are using it for.... and the shootist degree of skill. The Barrett if you liek extreme distance with heavy loads for like dismembering someone or taking out a car.... the Mossin-Nagget 7.62 x 57 or 59 if you are looking at ranges less than 500 yards.... A modified M1 Garrand for general purpose with a walnut stock and floating bed..... the possibilities are endless.... heck even a Remington .243 with a Leupold Scope can be deadly.... but most of the effectiveness come via the finger pulling the trigger....

One of the Barrett line of 50 cal. rifles. 2710 ft per sec and a range of 2000 yards is tough to beat.
