Its called tinted windshield its the only tint allowed on your windshield older car had clear glass and that is not fun to drive in the sun with so factory safety tinted glass standard on all American sold vehicles it was proved you can see better with this type of D.O.T. Glass and all windshields on a American Car must have a D.O.T. Logo Department of Transportation and front windshields are laminated two pieces glued together with a tinted laminate its in the center of the two its to keep objects from entering and to keep objects from leaving the vehicle for safety, side glass will break into small fragments and will fall out like sugar old cars had single strenghth glass and in a wreck it would cut you like a broken drinking glass ,so it called tempered safety glass to shatter on impact, the windshield on the other hand will not do this its to keep you in the car and objects out
