I hear people often say "He crammed the bible down my throught" or "beat me over the head with the Bible." Obviously this is a figure of speech. I'm interested in comments about this phrase and how people think it came in to being.

John said he did if you read about it below.

Rev.7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

Rev.10:8 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth.

Rev.10:9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey.

Rev.10:10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

Rev.10:11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

No ome has to do it to me, I love it and I read, study and do the math all the time.

I've never had a bible literally crammed down my throat but I have been hit over the head with a bible when I was very young and didn't understand you aren't supposed to ask questions about the bible.

exciting question! I libve ina city with 8 million human beings and that i don't believe of a few thing is crammed down absolutely everyone's throat. i imagine this mentality is derived from those who watch a good number of television or are trapped in relationships with very few human beings. in case you sit down and watch the television all day, counting on what you watch you are able to make the argument that "bikini females", "activities", "The Iraq conflict", "Paris Hilton", etc are 'rammed down your throats'. those are an same those that pick to get off the couvch and jog contained in the park. i don't believe of absolutely everyone will be chasing them with a bible in the journey that they do this. even if, in in the present day's society, to point someone study the bible to get over melancholy is somewhat off subject matter. What you need to do, as a good Christian is to ask them to a function that in order that occurs to be subsidized or touching on for your church. From there your chum ought to fulfill those who can help them. melancholy is a serious medical situation and studying the bible or a church function ought to no longer be the answer. a good Christian, or heck a good all and varied, would attempt to help locate the motives, be there to pay interest and propose they see a doctor, Peace, Billy!

I went out with a man once on visitation. The people had to physically block their door with their body and I had to pull the guy away by the arm. I had to make a big deal out of leaving the people alone-there are actually some people who do far more harm than the good that ten people can do. Yes, when people tell you that they were beat with the Bible it is real. I am Baptist-and It scared me.

I'd say if someone kept yapping about the Bible and you couldn't say anything they pretty much prevented you from talking. Like they shoved something down your throat. In this case... the Bible.

Not literally, of course, but the government "crams" religion-based legislation down our throats on a daily basis. Censorship, sexuality laws, liquor and drug laws, etc.
