It must suck to be in this position. If I were in this sticky situation, I would be too scared to tell my best friend that I'm in love with him/her. But hey, it's not like your best friend in with anyone right now. Technically, he/she is single. You can try to make yourself more noticeable and drop a few hints how you feel.
If you're confident enough, it would be great to confess. Don't worry, if you guys are best friends, it totally wouldn't ruin the friendship. I've had two best friends who confessed that they liked me, but we were such good friends that we didn't let that affect our friendship.

Hello, I've been there before.You will have to try and win him over , if his heart belongs to someone else it may be hard to impossibile.If you do your best & that doesn't work you'll have to let him go or else wait & hope they break up (not recomended). Competition might be making you want him more than you should.Anyway you should be looking around - you just might find someone better suited,he might seem like the only one for you but that could change in time... whoa,this is a sticky and hard situation.Well is your best friend anyway,he understand if you tell him that you falling in love with him.And if he doesn't love you,that doesn't mean you will lose him as a friend.You both will be friend forever no matter what.I mean that if you and him know what is "best friend" mean,things won't get wrong.
Maybe he'll be suprising that you fall in love with him in all of sudden,surely he will think about it and see which and which,either you or the other girl he has to choose.Just touch words,if things goes bad,perhaps he maybe doesn't want to make friend with you anymore because he was in a shocked when he knew you were falling in love with him.But I know that won't happen because I've been through that situation once so as my other 4 close friends.
Example of my real story.My best friend was a guy and I'm a girl.But after some time,he found another girl that I get jealous then I relise I falling in love with him.I told him off that I like him.I thought things will get worst,but no,I was wrong.He straight forward telling me that he like me too as his friend and he feel very sorry that he falling in love with the other girl.But oh well,cannot force him anyway but we still friends till now and always keeping in touch always on phone or anyway we go.
But if you still like him,don't give up.Always keep in touch with him even thou if he has a girlfriend.[Just like me now] Who knows one day,he might be falling in love with you.Miracles do happen sometime.

to be honest there are 2 things u could do
1) tell him how u feel sit down and have a heart to heart either he will feel the same or he will be really shocked and may feel a little wierd hanging around together if he doesnt feel the same
2) let him fancy this girl maybe they will go out then she may dump him or things may not turn out right so u can be there to dry his tears and pick up the pieces then he may realise that u belong together
if not just go out together and hang out go the cinema and stuff be really great with him then maybe if he feels the same u will know he will look at u in a special way or catch him looking that when u look he looks away quickly

somebody gets hurt. personally i think you should keep your mouth shut because more than likely you'll lose your friend if you tell him because being together will become too uncomfortable. your relationship is a friendship for a reason, if it was meant to be more it would've been. be grateful for what you do have and set your romantic sights on someone else.

oh that story u love him but he loves someone else well that has happened to me before but u just have to turn of ur feelings for him because if it was ment to be he will come to u, to not feel u have to turn off those feelingsfor that person so when u get burned u won't feel it andit won't matter
