This will sound like a joke, but it's not. My cat poops in our bathtub. Every day. On the very same spot in the tub. EVERY DAY. We're religious about cleaning her box, and it doesn't seem to be a response to anything else. We have another cat (also female), and they get along well and play together a lot. We keep the door closed most of the time, but it's the kids' bathroom and they don't always remember. My husband is literally ready to beat her into submission, but I don't really feel like that works. Any suggestions?

Yes, she is fixed. She's 4 years old and we've had her since she was a little over a year old.

I am grateful it's the tub ~ it's pretty easy to clean! The other cat used my daughter's bed for a litter box before she was fixed. I had to change her sheets every day. UGH!

If this is a relatively new behavior, you need to have her seen by a vet. When cats that have always used their littler tray start going elsewhere it's usually a sign something is wrong. She may have something going on inside that's painful and she's associating THAT with the litter box when she tries to eliminate, so she's going elsewhere. I had a male that did that, and it turned out to be cancer. He would go in the bathroom sink (ick!) while he was still strong enough to jump up there, and switched to the bathtub when he couldn't. So, he was TRYING to be a good boy no matter what -- and he picked the easiest-to-clean area he possibly could.

Sounds like you have a good kitty -- have her checked by a vet.
And let your brutish hubby know that if he beats a cat, he not only inherits a TON of bad karma, but the kitty will most likely begin pooping on HIS things!!! (They do that, ya know!)

Set a small litter box in the tub where she poops, if she goes in that, after a few days move the box just outside of the tub. Gradually continue to move the box away over a period of time. hopefully she'll get the idea and follow the box. If not, be grateful it's in the bathtub, which is much easier to clean up than carpet, or your bed, for example.

Your cat just has a weird quirk. You should be glad she picked a bathtub and not a pillow or the dining room table, like some I've heard of.
I really don't think you will stop this behavior. Try putting a small litter box in where she goes and see what she does. If she uses it, try moving it little bit at a time toward the litter box you want her to use. I bet though, she will insist on using the tub.
Tell your husband that just the way it has to be and try to keep it cleaned up yourself (or the kids).
Good luck

Wish I knew, our new kitten will use the box to pee but will poop under our daughters bed, always in the same spot and always at the head of the bed. We have kept the door closed for over 2 weeks and she snuck in the the door was open for a minute and did it again. I have read that punishing a cat doesnt work like a dog. They have terrible attitudes. You can always try double sided sticky tape on the floor of the tub. I am doing it right now and have seen a slight difference for going onto counters.

Beating her is absolutely not the answer. Do you have a litter box for each cat? some cats don't like to share boxes. rule of thumb is 1 box for each cat + 1+ 2 cats, 3 boxes. You could take her to a vet for a check up as well. not using a litter box can mean the cat is ill.

Get a seperate litter box for her. She may not like using the same box as the other cat and sees the tub as the only alternative.

he's too youthful to start up getting hairballs so i really dont imagine that thats what that is... perchance he has a touch chilly? yet both way, because he's in undemanding words a kitten i'd take him to the vet to get it appeared at in simple terms to be secure =) Im exceedingly particular that cats dont start up getting hairballs until eventually they're 6+ months old! My lady cat didnt start up getting hairballs until eventually she became over a three hundred and sixty 5 days old.. and my boy cat is a million a million/2 and he hasnt had a hairball yet (he's a maine coon and has very lengthy hair).. My moms cat on the different hand is 4 years old and he or she all started getting hairballs at the same time as she became about 8 months old.. (she's an american shorthair)..

Like another poster said, you might try getting another litter box: Some cats are EXTREMELY finicky about sharing boxes.

Another thing you might try doing is leaving water in the tub: That's what I did when I had another cat who was doing the same thing. It turns out he was sick. So you may wish to have a vet check her over.

Good luck!

you might just have to put a litter box in the bath tub. i had a cat who would go behind the tv all the time. so i ended up just putting the catbox there. it worked. i didnt really care for it there but it was better than having to clean up after her all the time

Is the litter box clean? Have you tried changing the type of litter?

By the way....

How can you even THINK of beating the cat????? I am about to cry after reading this message! Oh, and one more thing--beating an animal is against the law, lady!
